Never, ever sign up for their personal training. Signing up for personal training with them is like signing a deal with the devil. I signed up for a year and a few months down the road some problems came up and I was no longer in a financial position to continue the training. Now, I'm not going to lie, the training is great, the facilities and equipment provided by the gym are great. But, when I couldn't continue anymore, GL slammed a huge fee. They wanted me to cover the cost of the remaining 9 months of the contract. Sure, I could have been more careful, but these guys don't give a flying f**k about what happens to you, they just want your money.
This gym is a 6/10. I've been coming here for two months. The Bad - WAY too small and crowded for the amount of people that use this facility - Don't even think about finding a bench or weight during peak times - Id say only half the people in the gym wipe their equipment down after using the equipment. This is largely due to the fact that half the towel dispensers have been out of commission for a while now - I don't don't about the women's but the men's bathrooms/change rooms are a 5/10. Sinks and counters are always covered with soapy water, toilets un flushed, dirty towels are EVERYWHERE. Even though this club is relatively new, a lot of the locker doors are broken off. Theres a sheet in the front that shows the maintenance schedule.. I've seen the staff miss hours at a time and fill in the sheet for the hours they actually missed. - LOL whats maintenance on machines/equipment? Were lucky this place is relatively new or else half the machines would eventually be out of commission. - Weights are EVERYWHERE, not in their proper places (mainly during peak times) - Half the tv's on the elliptical/treadmills don't work - Most girls I know pay a lot less than I do for their monthly membership... some of them are paying literally half for the EXACT same membership as I have. (All club + towel service). Whats up with that? The Good - Staff has been really nice to me since day one - (most) people are really nice and courteous - Amazing location (Markham road and Steeles) - Free parking, unlike a lot many other Goodlife gyms I've been to across the GTA - Hot towels are always available (only had an issue once in two months) - Variety of machines and classes available, when they're actually available The Verdict If you go during peak times, you're going to have a bad time. This Goodlife location gets the job done. If you go at the right times its an amazing experience. The staff can only do so much. People need to learn to clean up after themselves, basic humanity 101. It would be great if they expanded the location. Maybe even moved the weight area on the bottom floor and the cardio on the top floor as even walking around on the top floor requires you shifting and shuffling and doing cartwheels to dodge people. I used to go to the gym at my university before so I might have just been spoiled with their 35 million dollar facility. Its an OKAY gym, definitely needs some improvements though.
Great place to work out and a wonderful staff.
The strength section is tooo small. You bump into each other. Not good
Brand new machines since it's a new gym. Very busy though, so it can be a wait to get access to some machines during the gyms peak hours. Open 24 hrs, 4 days a week, so that's a definite plus.
