After being a client for over 3 years or whenever this facility opened in Ballard, I called to discontinue my membership and was told that I had to stop in or mail in a cancellation letter. I do not live in Ballard any longer and asked to be able to simply email or fax in a letter of the same effect and was told that was not possible due to their policy. I find their system of allowing clients in good standing for numerous years to not have access to a simpler way to terminating a contract with them unacceptable. They have no issues with taking an auto payment from my account monthly but they cannot allow me to fax or email in a letter to discontinue with their membership. It feels like Fitness 19 makes it extremely difficult to discontinue membership so most likely people put it off to not have to deal with their outdated policies. I am extremely disappointed with Fitness 19 and the fact that they are not more up to date and easier to work with for discontinuing my membership. I understand policies are in place for a reason but in most cases if it is NOT life or death exceptions can be made for the customer. After all that is what I have been for all these years!

I never really used my membership much as I am not much of a gym person. The facility is pretty clean and the machines seem to be well kept up. The staff always were friendly and seem like they really enjoy working there. So my experience using the services was good. And the price is great as well. However - the reason I am giving this place a one star review is on principal. I cancelled my membership because I just wasn't using it. It wasn't a convenient location for me. So basically I cancelled during the month where yearly membership charges are made, which I didn't didn't realize until after I had cancelled and was charged for my last 30days + membership annual fee. (and they didn't tell me about the annual fee being charged when I went in to cancel in person- nor was it on the cancellation paper I signed.) When I called to ask for a refund, the woman I talked with was sympathetic (and I can appreciate the position that Fitness 19 upper management decisions puts her in) but reiterated many times that because I signed a contract with a 30day cancellation clause, she couldn't give me a refund, and wouldn't do anything. You she basically admitted to me that the organization doesn't care about what is right or good for the customer or about saving face (my interpretation) and that even if she did talk to someone higher up that they would say the same thing and quote the contract. Are they within their contractual rights to charge me these fees and refuse to give me a refund even though I haven't used their services in over a year? Yes, they are, and naturally it's my own da*n fault for not using my membership and wasting my money. So yes, I basically did this to myself. It's not really their fault at all. But could they throw me a bone here? Loosen that fancy tie and portray a small kindness? I invite Fitness 19 to contact me with the number they have on file if they would like to throw me a bone. This probably won't work, but I will likely alter my review if they do. Forgive this very yelpy review!

Positives: I got a great deal ($7/month), but quickly lost interest. It's not a busy gym, so you'll never have to wait for equipment. Probably a good gym for you if you want a low-energy exercise program. (They have a "Silver Sneakers" program for 55+.) The place is only a few years old, so the equipment is pretty up-to-date (except AV equipment -see below). Negatives: The staff turnover is pretty high, and only one "class" is offered at 11am. The TV's don't have real cable, so if your motivation to go work out is some quality tube time, this isn't your place. The sanitation spray is tied down, so who knows when the machines actually get wiped down. That said, it was $7. I've saved up enough to join a real gym so will be dropping my membership pronto.

The staff is always friendly and the price is most definitely affordable. Just wish that there was more parking!
