while they have a clean and relatively new equipment. The place needs to be sprayed down with Fabreez, hate that smell of old sweat and rotting rubber mats which permeates these kinds of places. It is a very corporate environment. The trainers that I met acted as if they were physical therapists which they are not even close to in knowledge. Their angle is to sell you on way over priced personal training sessions. That is why they want you to connect with them upon your first joining, so they can sales pitch you. That's what I got. I got next to nothing from my fitness assessment. It is corporate run and dictated, none of the staff or the manager has the power to change or adjust anything so if any of the employees tell you they will do something for you or check into something or change something it will not happen. The hours between 4 - 7:30pm are always crowed and it can be hard to get your work out in. Many of the patrons do not re-rack the weights they use as well. LA. Fitness's answer is to come by before closing and put these things away instead of getting after the rude people who leave sweat all over the equipment and weights just as they last used them. It would be nice if some would come and wipe off the yuck of the stretching mats. but again if you ask someone there about this they will pass the buck. The pool is nice (one of the main reasons I joined) but again always crowed at prime time. The cleaning staff does do a good job- don't get me wrong. They seem to be over worked and they go through them about every 6months or sooner. Maybe they should have more cleaning staff??? especially during busy hours, but will that happen. Nope, that would cut into profits too much. So if you dislike the kind of places where muscle bound body builders dominate the weight lifting and especially the free weights and especially from 4 - 7:30 (yep this is when everyone wants to work out and swim) you will want to avoid this gym.

This review is not about the facilities but about the management and the fact that LA fitness makes it so hard to cancel memberships. My son attended LA fitness through high school and enjoyed working out there. When he left for college I canceled the membership and it was not easy to do that...you had to mail in a cancelation form that you acquired by signing up online first. it takes weeks for the cancelation to be registered...or you have to go into the facility and cancel. Neither was convenient. When my son can home from college, he wanted a place to work out for the 5 weeks he was home. I called and talked to Eddie and he told me they had a program where you would pay for 2 months only and there was no contracts. This sounded great so I sent my son in to sign up with the $69 that I was told. Low and behold what Eddie signed up my son for was a membership and the $69 was for first and last month. This WAS NOT WHAT I WAS TOLD. I am sure Eddie gets some sort of bonus for memberships and he straight out lied to me. Then a few months later I got a bill for $34 and was told the membership was still active and I had to either come in to cancel or mail off. This was not what I signed up for or was sold. Eddie then told his manager Marci that he did tell me it would be a membership and straight out LIED again. This is not acceptable. I will never have any of my kids go here and I will get the word out about these practices. I was stuck paying the $34 and having to cancel...I guess LA Fitness could care less about customer service and return customers. They should have taken my word for it as opposed to Eddies and down the right thing. Bait and hook...Eddie I hope you read this...and know what you did isn't right.

I personally don't have any issues with the equipment or facilities. The problem with LA Fitness is their staff and management. I was promised numerous times that I would receive a month free of charge after the insulting introductory/evaluative training session I encountered when I first joined. Months passed by and I never received the free month that I was promised. I called for the 3rd time to remind them of the issue and they say that they can't give me a month free of charge and that there was no record in their system of the issue I had (even though the manager said he had made notes in their system). HORRIBLE customer service. Not to mention that they were supposed to put my kids club membership on hold when I first signed up and failed to do so. Onto their "kids club" issues... They say they can watch your kids starting at 3 months old and up and that all of their kids club employees are certified to do so. So after realizing that I was being charged for the service, I decided to give it a try. I left my 6 month old son with a young teenage girl in their kids club while I went to work out. 20 minutes into my workout I was called in because my son was crying. After talking to the girl for a little bit, she tells me that she has NO EXPERIENCE watching after kids. She said she is learning how to watch them. Ummmm No thanks. Also she was the only one in the kids club with no one else there who may have been able to assist her. Overall LA Fitness is not a gym that I would recommend to anyone. Ever. There are much better choices out there than this garbage establishment.

I was there for a month's membership; apparently it costs $150. Instead of taking a month's membership, the guy wanted me to sign up for their "program without contracts". In each program, they take 1st and last month's payment right away, so when you want to discontinue, you would have already paid even the next months payment. This is a cheap and dirty way to do the business, but clearly, naive people fall for it. Every person in here calls himself a "manager", which I thought was incredibly funny. These managers have no control on anything that goes in here. Although I told him that I know enough about LA fitness, he still wanted me to check out the whole facility before we could discuss memberships. That was a waste of time! I had to walk out of the place to stop wasting time.

I joined the gym last Summer and have been enjoying it ever since. It's clean, with a large variety of machines and equipment which I never have to wait for during my visits. Anthony, my trainer, is truly awesome. He genuinely cares about my progress and well being. He's always entertaining during work outs, changes things up on a regular basis and very flexible with my hectic schedule. He's really my biggest motivator for dragging myself into the gym.
