I've been to a lot of gyms and this one is by far the best. Staff is always welcoming and friendly. The physical training team is always available to help make sure your comfortable and using equipment correctly as not to strain or pull anything. The classes are a blast. I recommend RIPPED for those serious about weight loss or toning muscles. The pool is also a great feature. Lanes for lap swimming and also a wading or free swim area that kids or elderly can leisurely play. Therapy pool is great for range of motion type things or physical therapy. Overall cleanliness is pretty well maintained but there will always be those few that break the rules and dont shower before hopping in. Guest passes are awesome and given out approximately every 6 months, keep in mind tho, its a sales pitch to get them to join, but then again who doesn't want your friends and family to be able to join. Joining is not a required part of using the pass and partisapents are required to take a tour so they know where things are and can ask questions before uptaining one. Thet must also sign the release of liability forms and emergency forms but thats no matter where you go to be on any form of heavy equipment. The whole process takes only 10-15 mins and if you didn't schedule an appointment then they usually can squeeze you in within 10 mins of waiting in the waiting area. Overall this place is a great place to relax, workout, have fun, or do your own thing. Ive had several friends and family join and most times there are permotions when you recommend and bring in others. Hope you enjoy it all!
This gym is terrible. The set up for this place is bad, small rooms everywhere so you can't do your workout in one place, everything scattered. The pool is always full of loose hair and is not clean. The staff are indifferent about everything at best. People bring their children to play at the indoor pool even though it is a lap pool. There is almost no parking at this facility and the gym is lacking good equipment. I have the membership where you can go to any of their gyms but they screwed me over on that. I have to go early in the morning because they just changed their facilities so the one on Caldwell they took out basic exercise equipment like barbells and benchpresses. I have worked out at many gyms and I enjoy staying fit but there's now way to do it at this place. Once my membership is up I am out of this dump.
This gym is perfect and all the raters below me are just haters. lots of the nicest equipment and the staff will do anything you ask.
UNLIKE the one in Porterville, this one is vastly cleaner and has far more features for its customers, such as an outdoor pool for the kids and multiple whirlpools rather than simply one. Unlike the one in Porterville, the one in Visalia has always-every time I was there-had clean bathrooms and changing rooms, and unlike the one in Porterville, ALL of the shower stalls have clean and modern shower units and a bench to sit on for those patrons who have difficulty standing. The one in Porterville is an absolute MESS almost 24/7 and currently-due to leisurely paced renovations-is operating without access to toilets, wash basins and showers for its patrons, even though they recently DOUBLED their monthly membership dues. I did read the reviews left here by other customers and can honestly say that at NO TIME have I ever witnessed wet/dirty towels left on the floors and counters, dirty pools and dirty whirlpools, old stains on the walls, etc. at the Visalia branch...althought these are a common occurrence at the Porterville branch of In-Shape City. As for the customers jumping into the pool immediately after a workout without showering first: that has a lot more to say about the mentality of the people in the Central Valley than it does the responsiblity of the staff of In-Shape City. Although there are cameras at the front desk to monitor unruly/unsafe behavior from patrons using the pools and whirlpools, it falls on the PATRONS to promptly report such disgusting/unsanitary behavior to the staff since the staff cannot physically be present EVERYWHERE nor do they have eyes in the back of their heads. It only takes a minute to witness such gross behavior from fellow patrons and to walk oneself to the front desk and REPORT THEM. I guarantee that if you do so the staff WILL rectify the problem. I give the VISALIA branch of In-Shape City 4 out of five stars; unlike the Porterville branch it's actually WORTH the monthly dues to use it.
The gym itself is ok, but I use the indoor pool and do laps for medical reasons. The pool is almost never clean and when you tell someone it is just blown off. Sometimes the water looks near the color of urine so I am wondering how often they even change it. The outdoor pool is much better than the indoor pool, but what is gross is that people that are lifting weights and done with aerobics don't shower and just jump right on in the pool. Talk about making a person want to vomit. I am afraid to use the whirlpool in fear that I will contract a yeast infection or something else due to the disgusting patrons that use it. No one follows the rules. I have complained about this and their like ,"well, it is cholorinated". If this keeps up I am calling OSHA on their a$$e$! The staff is a hit and miss. There are some awesome people there and there are a couple of real jerks in there that just look down on everyone. In-shape corporation really needs to do an overhaul of the Visalia location and retrain its employees on customer relationships and also how to work with disabled patrons! So to be honest I cannot recommend this gym.
