Premier Health & Fitness Center

Highway robbery!! Unless you are affiliated with TMH in some off beat way; e.g., a "volunteer" with a special volunteer Id-card. The membership rates are way beyond what is available in other fitness centers in Tallahassee and, add on top of that the ever mysterious "enrollment fee," which is nothing more than a way to increase one's monthly membership dues! No waiver of enrollment fee or pricing discount for Military (a gross oversight), healthcare professionals, except for other TMH people. Frankly, the place is over-priced for the services. I was a previous member and several pieces of equipment needed repair and/or replacement. When informing the young, obvious, college student staff; I was blown off! Oh! that's right, it is all about them, they are in college now and have somehow risen to some type of level in life that gives them a pass on customer service and courtesy. Let's see.....oh that's right they have over come acne and other adolescent maladies and made it to college on someone else's dime. As some other reviewers have noted...customer service is severely lacking. Asking one of the snotty nose attendants for service results in an attitude of "you are disturbing my social activity!" The facility may be nice, but it would be better staffed by robots. After all, a customer should not be disturbing an academic adolescent with something as trivial as.....dare I say it, customer service!
I love how they look inside and how they smell! The locker room has an area to change if you are shy about undressing in public view. Plenty of showers and lockers to use. Staff are a little preoccupied, but friendly if approached. I love the aerobic pool and lap pools. I find I pretty much never have to worry about getting a lane and folks are friendly about sharing. They do offer guest passes which I liked.
Okay, so really I give this place 4 1/2 stars, but this site doesn't let you go halvsies. Premier is a great gym. The trainers all know what they're talking about and they love to help you. You know when you go to a gym and you love the equipment and space but the trainers and such are unpleasant and high and mighty? Well that isn't Premier. All the people I've met that work here are kind. There are some hoops to jump through when you sign up but that just gets you loose for your workout, right? ;) It is a place where a lot of different people go, so you may meet some not so nice people… but that's those particular people's faults and not Premier's. If you meet someone who is unkind, don't worry because there are so many good kind people waiting to back you up and be awesome. Premier is not a gym where you will find those girls that go all dressed up and find the most muscle-y guy they can find and hit on him. Premier is genuinely a place for you to go to learn how to better your life, get healthy, and, like me, lose weight. I've already lost 18 pounds. :) It's the best gym I've ever been to.(Minus the occasional jerks. But that's life I suppose.)
I really appreciate that the manager of the place is helping me with an issue. That makes me feel a lot better about Premier.
When you are finally ready to join the gym, you might be feeling a little anxiety about getting started or be overwhelmed. You might not physically be at your best and walking through those doors can be intimidating. If this is the case, Premier Health and Fitness is not the gym for you. I have never experienced more roadblocks when attempting to become a member. They don’t have to be helpful because their lot is jam packed. The machines are jam pack. The classes are jam packed. Ask for a temporary pass and see for yourself what Premier is all about. Be prepared to fill out forms, make sure you bring your ID, and don’t forget your checkbook. You are about to be owned. If your spouse is a member, there is no break for joining as a family. If you don’t join at the same time, you pay double enrollment fees. Beware of the contracts. Beware of their “policies”. Beware the childcare ups your membership fee significantly. My husband brought my 15 year old niece to play some one-on-one in the gym and had to get the management involved to gain access with her. In response to a question I had, the boy at the counter actually used the words, “we don’t have to…we are owned by TMH”. Its like that. The facility is nice, except they act like they are doing you a favor by allowing you in their gym. Join this gym, if you have a good workout routine going, you know how to use all the equipment and don’t need any kind of workout advice from a “professional”. Otherwise, you can be under contract down the road for a lot less with money, less hoops to jump through, better parking, nicer locker rooms, more helpful staff, more space in the classes offered.
