Anytime Fitness

I joined Anytime Fitness in Summer 2013 and purchased a year long contract with much resistance - prices are high. My employer allows for a discount, but it wasn't very much. No discount for paying the full amount upfront, and no other discounts that I was aware of. I was use to prices in Springfield, MO where I joined another gym for much less money, and there was also perks - women's only gym, FREE classes, freezing your account for time periods when you know you will be out of town, etc. I was only sold on buying a membership with Anytime because the hours are great - open 24/7. However, the office hours were difficult to work with for a 8-4pm schedule like mine. I couldn't always make it in time to Anytime before their office closed. Plus, once the office people are gone, I always wondered their plan for if someone were to do something dangerous. Yes, they would have it on video camera and there is a phone for emergencies, but there would be no help immediately from an employee. I always wondered how this hasn't been the cause for a lawsuit elsewhere at Anytime Fitnesses. I frequently saw employees cleaning machines and all of the areas of the building, however it was with little satisfaction. Every machine still looked a bit grimy, and the places where you put your feet, like on an elliptical, usually contained dirt or crumbs. I am not usually picky or a neat freak, I just always wondered why it couldn't be spotless in there. I find that the more personalized the gym is, the better. Instead of thoughtful or interesting signs and whiteboard messages, anything posted inside usually contained “DO NOT” or “MAKE SURE TO” I understand the management has to deal with people doing inappropriate things and not cleaning up after themselves, but for those of us that do, the numerous signs seem ludicrous. It's like a teacher posting every rule in the rulebook around the classroom. Lastly, if you plan to tan at Anytime, be ready for some work. They have it designed so that you go into the tanning bed at your own convenience, which in theory seems like a great idea because you don't have to check in with a receptionist or anything, however, this whole process proves to be burdensome. If you plan to tan during peak hours, you will find yourself in a line. You might have to put your name on a list, however no one is monitoring this list. So you have to be standing by the door waiting for your turn, otherwise someone could take your spot. Additionally, you have to clean the tanning bed after you are done tanning. I don't think anyone in their right mind would trust that the person before them cleaned it well enough. So every time y,ou plan to tan, you might have to stand in line and guard your place, be sure to clean the tanning bed thoroughly once arriving, and if for some reason you didn't clean the bed once you were done, you could leave your sweat in there for the next person because no one is monitoring it. Be sure to check on the sides and back of the tanning bed – I don't think it's been cleaned for months
Very nice atmosphere and great up to date workout equipment.
