No prices on their site, and the gym declined to discuss prices on the phone - required me to go and visit. I don't think much of that.
I cancelled my membership back in Jan 2012 because the classes became dull, boring, the same old lame choreographies.. Right before Sandy in Sep. 2012 I stopped by... I was wondering "Has anything changed..."Sign up and two days after I went in to do spinning...class was cancelled/no sub; went in for zumba class...class was changed to Hindu dance...I cancelled my membership. After Sandy, a couple days into their GRAND OPENING...I was curious. Went in...all new machines in weigth room, new spinning bikes...new studios...but the place looks like a rat hole and they want $84 and change...NO SAUNA...a steam room is on the way...LOTS OF PROMISES. I wasnt sure. Got a pass for the weekend and never went in. Last month I realized I had a $42 charge from Presidential Plaza in one of my credit cards. I'm so over this people I thought it was their system's messed up...I disputed wit my credit card...And adjustment was made. To my surprise the bastards charged me again now a full membership $84 and some change... Do I need to keep typing.... I H*** NEWPORT FITNESS AND THE THIEVES RUNNING THE SCAM. I rather stop here before I start calling them out by names. I WILL GET REIMBURSED AND WILL REVIEW THIS PLACE EVERYWHERE I CAN... ps: I agree with one of the reviewers...this place deserves a ZERO STARS!
Pros: 1. Only gym around. 2. Never any lines for the weights. This is due largely to the clientele who is there primarily to use the abductor machine rather than perform any serious training and the complete lack of access to equipment (see #2 below). 3. Laundry service. 4. Even though the music is specifically chosen to demotivate you it is low enough it can be easily drowned out with headphones. Cons: 1. Very expensive. Several hundred dollars more per year than top NYC gyms with several facilities scattered around the city. 2. Once they cash your check they inform you that you can't actually use all of the equipment they showed you on the tour unless you hire a trainer. (e.g. the Olympic weights in the "functional training room".) 3. The local clientele feel it is ok to bring there
The rates are a secret: they're not on the website. I called, the person who answered said I'd have to call tomorrow or come in. If the simple question of "how much?" is THAT complicated, I have to assume it's VERY high, and it will be a hellish experience to deal with them. First contact = last contact = avoid like the plague (like MOST of Newport, sadly)
I just called for a rate-$79/month (I live in Newport so I think it may be discounted if you lease with them). I'm only considering it because there is supposed to be a kid pool which would be fun for my 2 yr old.
