The Sports Clubs

I really liked this gym. It had a great location, it wasn't overcrowded, and the staff was nice. However, they closed abruptly and now there is no convenient place for me to work out. I would love it if they could reopen, or if another gym at the same cost could take their place in the area. S&W is way too expensive of a gym to be considered an alternative.
As a past member of Sports & Wellness and Defined Fitness and a current 2 year member of the Sports Clubs, I am very satisfied with The Sports Clubs downtown location. I like that it is locally owned with a family-friendly feel. I am greeted by name -- and with a big smile -- and my training is tailored for my age, health and goals. My trainer, John (simply the best but don't tell him I said that!), is a true professional who is invested in my success. However, if you like a big, impersonal gym then this is not the place for you.
Downtown.....John, Victoria and Ron make this club worth coming too. If not for them I would have cancelled my membership after the first year. Its not any better than any other place for equipment but the lay out is good. The other people who work out there are great too. Its not a competition about who looks best or lifts the most. Its all encouragement from the staff and other members. I also went to the 4th street gym several times. All the cardio equipment was dusty and dirty and the staff was just sitting around watching movies on laptops. It was a big turn off so I have not gone there in a long time, it may be different now. The Rio Rancho Gym is a good gym too. It has bigger equipment for heaver weights and lots of big muscle guys walking around, but they seem pretty nice and don't seem to be judgmental so working out there is comfortable. At all Gyms they have group classes. The class schedules are flexible and they have competent teachers.
Downtown gym is the greatest. The staff here is awsome. John and Victoria really bring a certain type of charisma to this place not sure it'd be the same without them. The equipment downtown is well maintained and cleaned, sauna works great and restrooms are clean. John is the best trainer, he offers motavation and support, cares about all his clients a great deal with proven results. I've lost 110 lbs with John and I've seen his other clients loosing too, its great! I enjoy the challenges we all particiate in really gives you the extra nudge. The people that workout downtown are fun to be around, can talk and still get your workout done, without becoming the social hour. Lunch time workouts certainly help me get through my day. I've been to Rio Rancho but it is not as welcoming as downtown but can still go in and get your workout in.
I actually do not have an issue with the equipment or staff at the club on 4th St. However beware! It is extremely difficult to cancel your contract. I have been trying to cancel my wife's and my membership since the summer. i.e. nearly five months. You are required to show up in person during their office hours Mon-Fri between 8 and 6 to cancel. Also, all parties signed up need to show up in person to cancel as well. I did find a resolution of sorts today; I need to get a certified letter sent with both of our signatures so that they can compare signatures with the initial contract. Do yourself a favor and just avoid the hassle and lost money.
