New York Sports Clubs

When I moved to back to Brooklyn last month, all I wanted was to find a place to work out. However, it seems the NYSC of Bay Ridge, and one of the reps there, Laurie, don't want to make that easy for me. A friend told me that if I called up the corporate number, I could get the student discount (which basically is $20 off the monthly rate, but you check-in go during peak hours). The reason I had to go through corporate is the clubs are limited to provide that discounted deal to people under 22. I dealt with a very nice person on the phone from corporate and was about to get the membership, but decided to stop by the gym first and as soon as I did I was greeted by Laurie and got the 30 day membership instead just to try the gym out, and I made the mistake of mentioning what deal I was getting from someone else, which she wasn't able to offer me in store. But she asked to know the name and number of the person from corporate, which didn't seem relevant at all. The next time I came in she told me to come to her because now she had access to the deal, but when I told her I was planning on working with the person I originally arranged the offer with, she got very snappy and rude with me for no reason. I simply told her that on principle I don't go behind people's backs once I arranged something with someone, to which she replied "What work did she do for you? - I'm the one that signed you up for the 30 day trial... what did she do?" Now, a month later, I call corporate back up and I'm told that a complaint was filed by THIS club, and I can't get the deal anymore. The lack of professionalism at this location is amazing, and it seems I'm not the only one with a bad experience according to this club's Yelp rating. First, I don't understand why it's called a student discount yet they limit the age to 22. Second, to take something so trivial personally and then go so far as call up corporate and file a complaint against a customer shows complete lack of professionalism. If you have to sign up for NYSC, do it at a location other than this one, or just don't work with Laurie. ...other than that the gym is pretty nice and all the machines work fine. I don't see why people are complaining about dirt, I think they got their game together :)
Very rude and nasty managers. I wanted to sign up for the gym, but quickly decided to join sports club on 86 street. I love sports club on 86th street!
I went one day to try out a one day free pass there but one of the employees said I can't try the free pass because I already did it before a year ago at a different location. Then I asked them if there was a deal going on and the employee said no we don't make deals. I walked out and then a couple days later I received a call from that exact same employee telling me that his manager told him to give me a deal for three months for 110.00 for three months. I was like too late, I found a better gym which was Dolphin fitness which I had a way better deal than NYSC. It's not the gym that makes the man, it's the man that makes the man.
I used to be a member at this club few years ago and they had problems with their machines and ventilation. The lay out is very vertical and confusing as well. However, few days ago I decided to give them another chance, and went in there hoping to do their 30 day trial membership. However, the general manager told me that since I had been a member 2 years ago I cannot do even one day trial membership or tour the facility. Unless I sign a year contract, I cannot use any of their facilities. I have never been to a gym where they don't let you have one or two day trial workout. Can't believe this guy is their general manager. Too bad the gym options are so limited in Bay Ridge around 72nd street! They need to open up Equinox here!
The worst of all Manager is not people personal They will take yoir money in a second but in return they will not do anything If it will not make some profit ro them There will s othere gyms for less money and biger hart
