LifeCenter Plus
Reviews
I have been a member of a number of gyms including The Natatorium, Fitworks, Kent Recreation Center, and Fitness 19. There just is no comparison to how Life Center Plus "feels" compared to these other gyms. Life Center Plus is layed back, never uncomfortably crowded, people are friendly, and it offers so many classes and opportunities to work on one's well being. I have never felt out of place or unwelcome. My children have taken swim lessons and tried Karate. I have a trainer, whom I absolutely love, and I have tried Aqua and land Zumba. If you are looking for a family friendly facility where you can feel at home, this is the place. Another nice thing is that they provide towels, soap, shampoo, conditioner which make it super easy to decide to swim and not have to go through a big packing ordeal! For me, its been worth the price.
All in all, I'm pretty disappointed in this gym. For what you pay, you expect more. Life Center is almost 3-5 times more than other, newer gyms in the area. For starters, the elliptical machines in their environmentally controlled room have had problems for more than a year. Either the TV's don't work, the sound doesn't work, or the mechanics of the machine themselves aren't smooth. This isn't new. This has been a problem for a year. Pads on equipment that has ripped aren't replaced in a timely manner. (How hard is it to order a new pad and attach it to a leg raise / dip station?) Newer equipment, like kettle balls, remain locked, only for use with a personal trainer. And you've got to hope that the hot tub works or isn't cold. Then in the men's locker room, the hamper is broken. Really? You can't afford $5 at Big Lots to buy a new hamper? Then the really rich part, if you want to bring your kid, they're going to charge you even more. We pay $100 a month to be a member at this gym, but I get better equipment at Fitness 19 or Fitworks for $10 a month. Sure the sauna and hot tub are nice (when they're on or working), but is it really worth an extra $90 a month?
Completely agree with John Martin's review - Life Center Plus is overpriced for what you get. For a family of four (two adults and two kids under age 3), we're paying $110/month. The quality of equipment and class offerings is truly lacking. The facility is supposedly undergoing a renovation, but we were sold on that when we signed up a year ago, and we've yet to see any improvements made. The facility and equipment is outdated and is only functioning a portion of the time. The outdoor pool is the only thing that Life Center Plus offers that other local gyms don't have, which doesn't justify the price, in my opinion. We'll be going somewhere else once our membership contract expires this year.
I love LCP. I have been a member 9 years. They have a wide range of options so as I have moved from just swimming to swimming, spinning, running, yoga and weight training I have been able to stay at the same place (and spend the same amount of money). There is still more if I want. For pure yoga fans you won't find anyplace else with as many great classes all included for one reasonable price (they have a yoga-only option for even less if you want). Use me as your reference (maybe I'll get a sweatshirt or something!)
Was a member here for about 3.5 years. My contract was only 12 months but continued to use the gym. We cancelled when we switched our billing and they did not accept Amex. Then about 3 months later i get a letter saying we owed them about $400, now today I get a letter from a collection agency saying we owe almost $800. The gym was purchased out of bankruptcy and there was always issues. You could count on the steam room and the hot tub to be down at least once a week and after a flood, there was always a mildew smell. They seem desperate for money now.
