Planet Fitness - Charleston, SC

If you're considering a gym to get fit, don't go to planet fitness. It's a discriminatory organization. If you lift weights or are of a different religion or wear different clothes, the other members will claim you make them "intimidated" and you'll be kicked out. They also have a discriminatory "lunk alarm" that goes off if you drop weights or grunt. You're only allowed to stress yourself within a comfortable range, but they do offer bagels and pizza, so you can bulk up if you want.
Great place. Plenty of equpment. Friendly staff.
Worst gym in the world. Water fountains do not work. The cardio equipment is outdated and it is hit or miss if they work or not. The staff has not personal training knowledge what-so-ever. You can pretty much bring up any problem to the staff in a polite manner and not expect anything to be done about your issues. While it is understood that companies are in business to make a profit, there is generally a desire to please the customer. This planet fitness does not give a crap if you want to come to their gym. They are simply there to take your initial sign up fee and pray that you do not come to work out after this. The free weight area consists of two bench presses with tons of dudes just lurking around waiting for one to open up....dumb bells hardly go up high enough....basically the gym fools the older crowd into working out there knowing darn well that they most likely will not continue to show up on a regular basis and continue to have their funds drafted on a monthly basis. Gym does not cater towards those who actually do seek to enjoy a gym on a regular basis. Needless to say, I switched to gym located five minutes away, paid a whole year in advance, and this amounts to $13 a month which literally almost competes with PF's sole marketing strategy of being the cheapest in town....except that the gym I go to now is twice as good (Pivital Fitness) and even offers me classes as well. I sincerely feel Planet Fitness is the equivalent to Wal-Mart except they do not care about their customers as much as Wal Mart does.
I'm 45 and decided to start working out after a 15 year layoff. I visited several gyms in the area and choose planet fitness because they have free personal training sessions were you can go in and do a circuit with a trainer helping you. Also they had unlimited use of their tanning and massage beds all included in the $20 a month membership. Really a great deal I think.
I was not a "gym guy" before. Had been to gyms and found everyone to be obnoxious. I went to Planet Fitness with my fiancé and fell in love instantly!
