I've been a member of the gym for two months now. I was a member a few years ago when they were located on 14th street also. The new facility is a great improvement. Even though a few of the 12 or 13 treadmills are out of order, the place is always clean and you usually don't have to wait for machines with as many members as they have. I would agree that a water fountain would be a greater convenience than selling water, but its not a make or break deal. You can always take your own as most members do. It's also nice that the workout/aerobics classes are included in the membership fees. I like the place and plan on taking full advantage of my one year contract.
This gym was located at another location which was very run down. After moving locations to a larger building there have been little improvements, and only an increase in the dues. I have several major complaints which are (1) No water foutain, this should have been planned better when moving to a new location (2) High prices for the services provided, 35$ per month is what high quality healthclubs charge (with swimming pools, locker rooms, basketball courts, and state of the art equipment). (3) Poor hours, they open on Sunday at 1:00 PM and are closed all Sundays from Nov 11th - Christmas (4) Poor equipment, many cardio machines are broken as well as many machines are old and need replacements. (5) Students are required to bring in a schedule of thier classes everytime they renew thier membership, an ID should be sufficient in my opinoin. Once the new student recreation center opens in 2010 this gym will lose much of their buisness, and I would highly discourage any student from signing a gym membership here until improvements have been made.
The gym is alright, though many of the weight machines are inaccurate/broken. You have to pay extra to attend the Saturday morning group class, and they need to have more option for group classes on Fridays. The Step instructor is terrible to try to follow - because most of the people who attend have attended for a long time, he twirls and does other things during the routine, making it difficult to learn. They only have one stair stepper machine which is in pretty rough condition. The zumba class with Daniella is great and much tougher than other Zumba classes in the area. I think they are going to have to lower their prices now that TAMUK has a much nicer gym (they charge less too!!) Their website is horrendous; the layout and grammar needs some serious work if they want to be taken seriously. A note to the owners: an ellipsis only has 3 periods. You have them all over the website and gym incorrectly.
