I am a member of the Clarksville YMCA ($36/mo) and an American Family Fitness (AFF) in Richmond ($49.95/mo). The difference in the quality of the experience is amazing. AFF: clean equipment, friendly people, hot water, soap in dispensers, empty waste baskets, wide variety of recent vintage equipment, knowledgeable training staff. YMCA: not so much. I guess the reason the Y can get away with it is that they are the only gym in town and the members probably don't know any better.
