Highland Fitness

I've been going to Highland Fitness for about 3-4 years now, and I have to say, out of all the gyms in the area I've tried, they are the best. They have one large facility, two smaller ones that are 24 hours, the supply large and small towels, they offer semi-private trainers for an extra fee per month, showers, tanning booths, and the large facility has a sauna. The have all the equipment you could ever want, the price is very fair (about $38/month), employees are nice, it's never too crowded, and they just did some remodeling in the large facility. Overall, a great place to get/stay in shape. As for the complaints about contracts, I believe when I checked a few years ago about that. Apparently you cant cancel the contract unless you have a medical condition that stops you from exercising or you move more than 25 miles away from the facilities. And then you have to pay $25 to get rid of the contract. But from what I've been told, this is only for the FIRST YEAR. After that you can do a month to month plan. Its been a few years, so I'd call or check in and ask if this is still the case.
Like others have said, you cant get out of contract unless you die or move far away. Very shady sales practices. 1. They don't tell you a price on the internet, nor over the phone. Want you to come in so you can be pressured face to face to buy. They know its hard for people to walk away when your already in the building, been shown a tour and all the benefits blah blah blah. Its disreputable, other places put their prices right on their website and EARN your membership by being low priced, or delivering value. 2. Maintenance fee? 15 bucks every 2 or 3 times a year on top of a 35 dollar single membership. They could not even tell me when the fee would be charged. So their membership is not honest in its upfront pricing. Charge what it really costs and stop BS ing people. 3. Billing is outsourced and horrible to deal with if you have a problem or wish to cancel. They direct you to call the billing people instead of them handling it for you.
This is by far the WORST gym I have ever been to. On top of constantly broken equipment and VERY poor customer service this place will find any reason to charge you ridiculous fees. Their customer service reeks more than the inside of their gym. Save yourself the stress and go somewhere else. Highland fitness will do anything in their power to squeeze your bank account dry.
They won't let us even "buy out" of our contract? It isn't very professional to allow members zero rights in terms of their satisfaction level at their gym. We wish we never signed on the dotted line - make sure you don't unless you are sure. Highland: We will remove this review and how we review the gym to others if you allow us out of our contract.
