LA Fitness

Workout equipment is so-so. Pool is always clean and clear and usually at proper water level. The hot tub is hit-or-miss as to whether it is clean that day, or if your skin smells nasty upon exiting. Worst part of the experience is the disgusting state of the (men's) shower and bathroom areas. This location has always fallen far short of all others in terms of basic hygiene, but lately, the bathroom and shower areas have become increasing unsanitary to the point where they are now septic. The bathroom area smells like an animal cage at the zoo; the shower area has bacterial-type growths and residue caking the walls and shower stalls and floors, the curtains are all moldy, etc. Rubbing the floors with a damp dirty mop is their idea of cleaning. ALL SURFACES (walls, floors, basins, bowls, urinals, shower curtains) throughout should be regularly (i.e., daily) disinfected, but things at this location are so far gone they require a pressure steaming with a bleach or other chemical solution by a professional third party vendor in hazmat gear. Here there is a complete breakdown in management and accountability: custodial staff is clueless, on-site management supervision is non-existent, and there is obviously no regional or national oversight. It's a shame, because I've been in other locations, particularly outside of Florida, that could be held up as a model for gym hygiene. You are putting your health, if not your life, at risk if you enter the men's shower or toilet facilities at this location.
Very ignorant staff!! I work in the area so i decided to stop by and check out the gym maybe join. My girl is a memeber of planet fitness and likes it but for me her gym seems lacking. Anyway.. I walk in get a "tour" (which was very rushed) then sat down to talk pricing. Here is where everything got out of hand. After telling the associate that I was not intrested in joining today but would come back i was told "hold on while i grab a business card" only th have, what I would have to assume is there version off a closer sit infront of me.. Wow.. Talk about not knowing how to deal with ppl, this guy would not accept no for an answer and even got rude. The worst part is I had full intentions of joining but wanted to find out if my girl wanted to join with me or not. Now I can honestly say IF (huge if) I do join, it will be at another location. Given recent events Planet Fitness isnt looking so bad. Always a bad ide to hire a used car salesman as a gym rep.. (All this being said the actual gym is nice just not nice enough to deal with the staff.)
I have been a member since 2004 when this LA Fitness opened. Started out nicely but began to go down the tubes about two years later. Now it is an absolute mess and the most disgusting gym I have ever been in. Weights are scattered everywhere, equipment always broken and the facility is a filthy mess. The clientele leaves a lot to be desired...no one has an ounce of class, never putting weights back, leaving paper towels and bottles behind and the current manager does nothing to improve facility. I'm so happy to have joined another gym just as close to my home which is incredibly immaculate and people friendly.
I went today to get a membership, I didn't call for appointment just walk-in, the lady in front desk took my info and told me to wait for the one and only salesman at the time. he was busy so i waited, five minutes later he was free. but he just ignore me and started talking member. I decided to wait. 10 minutes later nothing, 15 min. later nada!.. 25 min. nothing. I watched the salesman walking back and forth to his desk and front desk with the lady that took my info. then the lady left and look at me and she kept walking. I left with no membership.
Wow, friendly staff - so many classes I can take for free, great equipment and every time I'm there - someone is always in the bathroom disinfecting everything. Place is huge and it's so convenient for me. Don't understand these bad reviews, last gym I was at didn't even have a locker room.
