John Geyston's Martial Arts Academy
Reviews
Great school with great instructors! My daughter and I both go!
I first went into John Geyston's Martial Arts Academy upon the recommendation of a friend. I immediately felt welcomed by the amazing group of people I met there and signed up for classes after my first night. That was almost 4 years ago now and each class I attend is just as much fun and educational as my first one. JGMAA provides a great positive atmosphere for learning, building confidence, and having fun for both children and adults. There are no strangers there and everyone is treated like family. Thank you John Geyston and the JGMAA staff for providing such a great facility and service to the community!
As a parent, I am happy to see my children encouraged and supported in all of their efforts at JGPMA (even when the results aren't great). Each little step in the right direction is applauded and they are never made to feel inferior or not up to par. I like that as a parent trying to teach respect and focus, these are key parts of learning karate. The staff is so encouraging and positive and the kids learn respect, focus, and get some good exercise while having fun. One of my kids hates anything to do with exercise, but she says karate is fun." Marcia Wohltmann
There are several choices for training Martial Arts in the Springfield area, but I feel the best family based and individual martial arts training facility by far is John Geyston's Martial Arts Academy (JGMAA). JGMAA is a family. You can train at the adult level while your child or children train at the youth level or you can even train together as a family. At the same time on the same floor. You can train during your lunch breaks, between noon and 1 o'clock, or you can train in the evenings. Whatever works best! You can learn Self Defense, Striking, and Jiu Jitsu. My son learns how to deal with bullies without confrontation, if at all possible, but is taught to defend himself, if necessary. I am taught as a woman not only how to defend myself, but the importance of being aware of my surroundings and that first and foremost the best thing I can do in a bad situation is to avoid it. In the case it cannot be avoided then the tools I have learned become tools to protect myself and my son. At JGMAA you study under an eighth degree Black Belt, Hanshi John Geyston, a 4th degree Black Belt, Renshi Ryan and other very well qualified black belts . JGMAA is a certified Jiu Jitsu school under the legendary Royce Gracie who personally visits the school and promotes its members as part of the Gracie Jiu Jitsu program! What more can you ask for? By the way, if you are a stud or a stud muffin who wants to step into the cage to test your skills as an MMA fighter, you can prepare for that there as well!
Renshi Will Ryan is the best martial arts instructor. Hanshi John has a great establishment. They are very kid friendly at this place. They have helped shaped my two kids into the people they are becoming by giving them a lot of encouragement.
