Planet Fitness - Bloomington, IN

Positives: Hard to argue with $10/month. You can get $10 out of your membership it if you just go for the pizza and tanning. Negatives: I understand the target that Planet Fitness is trying to reach. If you feel uncomfortbale going to a regular gym where there are big guys who make lots of noise, come to PF where you'll be welcome and nobody will judge you. Here's my problem though, this particular gym on Third Street in Bloomington does more than just marginalize the "lunk." I'm a normal guy. I don't have huge "guns," but I like to put in my time in the gym to put in a hard workout. This includes benching, squatting, pressing, etc. I don't scream, and if I'm going to "judge" anyone, it is going to be the guy who thinks he's all that because of how strong and muscular he is. As soon as I walked in to this gym though, I realized that I wasn't welcome there. With dumbells up to 75 pounds, EZ bar curls up to 60 pounds, NO free weights, and four smith machines I realized that this gym was looking to eliminate people who would do anything resembling a traditional workout with weights. I used to be a member of a PF in Ohio, and that gym actually had free weights. This gym just takes it too far. In their efforts to remove judgment from their gym, they have actually taken on the role of judge by essentially telling half of the guys who work out in this city to go somewhere else.
