Crossfit Michiana is great. The coaches care about you and are always cheering you on, teaching you along the way. I've gone from "I can't do that" to "I can do that and how can I do it better" with my workouts. If you're having difficulty finding a place that holds you accountable and encourages you to hold yourself accountable, this is it. I would highly recommend checking it out.
Why try Crossfit Michiana?? That was the question that I asked myself when I first came in these doors... I questioned if I could do it, If it was something that I would like, and I asked if it would be worth it.... I tried CFM and was so sore I was tempted not to return, I tried other options, did other fitness things and I found my way back to Crossfit Michiana. I can say this is the best coaching and fitness programming around. Every workout is universal with it's scalability options, which means Crossfit is for everyone!!!! The soreness passes and you find your strengths and you grow muscles along the way. I love it here because the coaches have made it their mission to provide us with a positive, healthy, fun environment that will give you results. Also, working out with others in a group is so rewarding. The people here are so great! The hardest part will be showing up the first time, then after that you will wish you found it sooner. I love it here.
I walked into Crossfit Michigana at 45 years old having never done any athletic thing in my life. Honest...nothing! I had no idea what I was getting myself into but told myself that I would do this crossfit thing over the summer and then when the kids went back to school, I would resume my 'regular' life. I couldn't run 200 meters, I couldn't lift a 45 lb bar, I couldn't do much of anything. What I did have was persistence and good coaches who were very encouraging and scaled the workout to my needs. I still vividly remember the first workout that Jim Turnbo made me do just like the other athletes. Sure my weights were a lot lower, but I had to go the entire time and do everything that was expected of everyone else. At one point I told JIm that I may be having a stroke, but Jim assured me it was just sweat and to keep moving. Almost 4 year later, I am still here. The changes since joining crossfit have been life altering and too numerous to list I am healthier now than I was when I was 20, am leading my children by example in nutrition and exercise, have made fabulous friends along the way and even found a wonderful man to share my life with. What happened to the person who couldn't run 200 meters 4 years ago? She has come in first place in a few competitions and is now in the top 300 athletes in the world in her age group. I could not be more excited and owe it all to Crossfit Michiana.
My 1st day was 01/02/2015, there was this "Fit for Life" challenge that kept showing up in my feed from my initial investigation of CrossFit earlier in the year. It seemed like something was telling me this is something I should try. I’m turning 39 this year and the scale keeps going up and my clothes were shrinking and my moods were all over the place… so I decided to listen to that little voice in my head. There was one spot left, and it was the last day, so I messaged Carol and asked her if I could have the spot. WHAT WAS I THINKING? My first visit to CFM I was nervous because I hadn't exercised in 2 years... I kept thinking what have I committed to, but she had me sign a contract and assigned my accountability partner, so there was no turning back. I signed my name, and my word means something, so I was committed to abide by the rules 100% for the 30 days of the challenge. Joe was my partner, and all I can say is he set the bar HIGH. I was not going to let him down; 100% was all I could give, and I gave it my all. Fast forward 60 days later and I am ABSOLUTELY in love. I love the way I feel, I love my progress, I love the workouts, and I love the support... I LOVE THIS PLACE! I'm down 11 lbs., 12.375 inches (2.75 in my waist), and 2% body fat. My strength and stamina has increased tremendously. I was so excited to start adding weight to the bar. I can't RX yet but I get stronger with every workout. I can do things I never thought possible. It makes me feel proud, and pushes me to come and workout. The athletes are inspiring, supportive, and just the perfect amount of friendly. I always feel welcomed, but everyone is there to work hard and support each other, so I'm definitely not distracted. The coaches are supportive and yet hold high expectations. They want you to achieve your goals and keep you pushing forward. I feel like I have a personal trainer; they help me with form, keep me progressing safely, and advise how to optimize my results by fueling my body properly. I have tried recruiting EVERYONE who seems interested to just try it. It may not be for everyone but if I can help someone feel the way CFM makes me feel... what an amazing thing!
I love CrossFit Michiana. I had no idea what CrossFit was when I signed up for an introductory package of 10 classes in April of 2012. I had tried many different types of weight loss and exercise programs over the past 20 years and found nothing that tops CrossFit Michiana. Even though I am not your typical CrossFit Athlete, I have never felt so encouraged and rewarded by the Coaches and fellow Athletes at CrossFit Michiana. I believe this is because Jim and Carole Turnbo have created an environment that is accepting to all. Whether your goal is to lose weight, regain lost muscle, or become the best CrossFitter ever I believe CrossFit Michiana is the place for you! Come check us out, you may never want to leave.
