If you get the regular membership for $10 at Planet Fitness, you basically get the ability to use the equipment 24 hours a day but that doesn't include any other amenities and yes, there is no contract. With a contract ($20 a month and an annual fee of $39), you can use all of the amenities which include tanning, massage chairs, and are able to bring a friend to work out with you (but they cannot use the extra amenities). One of my complaints with Planet Fitness is with their Customer Service. In being extremely cheap, they simply don’t have it. Talking to a person at the front is the equivalent of talking to a cashier of Wal-Mart, instead talking to someone at the Customer Service Counter. They simply don't have the ability to help you. I asked at one point in my membership if I could pay the total amount for the rest of my year membership and they said that they couldn't do that, that they would have to have a card on file and that they would continue to charge that card on a monthly basis and that I would have to come into the gym to cancel (you cannot cancel over the phone) after my "anniversary date" or I would be charged a "buy out fee" of $58. I asked to speak with the manager, and my number was written down but I never received a call from Alex who is only available from 9am-5pm. The other reason that I do not like Planet Fitness is that they advertise as "no gymtimidation" and "no lunks" but this is not a true representation of the 21st and Maize location (but have found it to be true at the 21st and Amidon location). Most of the employees are very fit and tan, which yes, is probably a perk of the job, but some, not all, are snotty and rude. I personally don't feel like that sets the tone of a welcoming and “non-judgment” environment. Personally, I have been to Genesis and the YMCA and prefer either to Planet Fitness as they simply have more variety to offer and I don’t have to deal with terrible customer service.
They made a mistake with my account, over charging me for two months. They had records of the change in the computer but lost the paperwork. When I presented them the mistake with the GM Alex saw the mistake and said since they have no paperwork they will not fix the problem. GO TO A DIFFERENT LOCATION.
