Urban Active - Palumbo

This place has so much potential, but management and workers make this place garbage. Unsanitary conditions made me leave. It is always gross anywhere you go in that gym whether it's the weight room or locker room. The equipment is also old along with unfriendly people. Overall a terrible experience.
I've been going to urban active for 5+ years now. It used to be golds. There is always one machine down out of 50+. This is a good gym with so many workout options. The classes are great and open spaces. The steam room could use some better cleaning along with the showers. I have never had a problem with the staff or being pushed into buying a service I didn't want.
I have been working out here for a year. I have had a trainer for about 5 months now. My trainer has been FANTASTIC. I have lost 5% body fat, 5 inches off my waist, and 15 pounds (142lbs to 127lbs). I love how large the gym is and their extensive selection of equipment. My only issue has been occasional problems with broken-down cardio machines and equipment in the plyometrics room that gets damaged and doesn't get promptly replaced (e.g. there used to be several sandbags, now there are none...or at least none that I can ever find; the rope got broken and was missing for a couple months, etc) That said, though, it has been completely worth it and those complaints have not affected my high opinion much at all. I, however, paid my membership up-front in CASH to avoid all the issues I've heard about the outsourced billing company. So far so good =D.
Staff is friendly, the trainer we have is great. No contracts, month to month membership. They have a room that's really awesome the has everything you need for bodyweight resistance training. Women's only area. Movie theater Cardio room. Large indoor track. My boyfriend and I love this place!!
This health club is called Urban Active (was Golds Gym). We joined in Jan 2011 and signed up w/ trainer Jackson, 3 times a week. We joined Weight Watchers as well and have lost over 60 pounds so far this year. In addition to training w/ Jackson, we have participated in group classes including Spinning and Urban Iron and Step Aerobics. They also have other classes that they do for their members- Kettlebell, Bootcamp etc. All of the classes are included in the price of the membership. We haven't used the pool or tanning salons. I can honestly say that we haven't ever had to wait for a machine to work out on and have found everything to be in working order (except for the occasional burned out lightbulb in the Ladies locker room). They added new machines in August in the upstairs so now there are even more to use. They have an indoor track and a separate workout area just for ladies along with a separate workout room if you are working with a trainer or just want to take advantage of the boxing bags or kettlebells etc. If you are looking for a nice club to work out in, with lots of machines and a variety of classes along with the best trainer in Lexington, check out Urban Active on Palumbo Dr.
