I prefer the emptiness of this gym over the big one at Barker Cypress. The staff is kind of about themselves and don't bother to assist with any non working machines or letting us finish our cool down because it's closing time. They also don't have a Froots stand but I really like the clientele, there's always nice people at this location vs the one on 290 B.Cy
Christina Rodriguez! I had the same experience with the personal training director as you did. I had my free assessment session with this person, which I felt pushed to schedule in the first place. After a 20 minute workout, he sat down and went over my options. When I said that I wanted to think about it...review the cost and talk to my boyfriend about his interest in joining, this guy’s demeanor totally changed. He seemed angry all of a sudden and actually said to me that if his "wife wanted to get herself together, I wouldn't try to stop her..." To suggest this in any work environment could be deemed as harassment, so they better keep an eye on him. I was completely appalled at his tactic to make a sale. A gym should be a comfortable place to better yourself…not a place to be treated like an ATM. First of all, the cost is ridiculous for a 30 minute session. I was a member of one of the most expensive gyms in Chicago and my trainer, who worked with me for an hour each session two times per week, and provided helpful nutritional advice (this guy told me that I should eat potato chips before my workouts for energy???), was still less expensive than the trainers at this gym. Not to mention that none of the trainers specialize in any areas of fitness. He pointed out a few of these individuals in the gym and frankly, I would not feel comfortable training with any of them. All that aside, I wanted to go home and do the math to see if it was really worth paying these fees (which initially seemed high AND there was a $150 sign up fee) for a trainer that I would be assigned…so I wouldn’t even have a choice of who I got to work with. Before I looked at the numbers, I had already decided that I would never step foot in this location again considering the way this man behaved. I honestly don't need a lot from a gym, and the location I go to now is fine for the price, but I was shocked to read that someone else was insulted by this guy. And it’s a shame…this location seemed clean, had newer equipment and was close to my house. Oh well. Still, not cool, La fitness.
I signed up with this gym last week with my fiance. They scheduled me an interview with a personal trainer/sales man who tried to pressure me into purchasing a years worth of training sessions. I told him I had to speak with my fiance because the membership was debiting his account. He tried to pressure me to do it anyways without speaking to my fiance, I held firm and once he realized I was not going to budge his demeanor changed to that of a jerk, not even a handshake in the end. I ran into him after a Zumba class this morning, said hi and all I got was a dirty look. When I said that I talked to my fiance and he said no he just gave me another dirty look. We were considering it but after today the answer is no, never! I don't think I am going to even return, for what? To get snubbed and dirty looks when I work out? If you get a membership say no to the personal trainer meeting unless you plan to purchase it. I'll tell you know it's almost $3,000 for one day a week per year.
I was a member here for over 3 years and then they got the new manager about a year ago. She changed the whole experience. I always used to watch Fox news during my treadmill sessions. She changed it to MSNBC. I asked many more times for fox news at least in the morning when I was there from 8 to 9. I was told that only the manager could change it. So I Quit. I did like the classes, and I had used several of the personal trainers and some of them were very good. but the overall experience was not good.
I just joined this gym and I like the cleanliness of the facility as well as the availability of the machines. What I don't like is their Kids Club. I sent my kids there just yesterday for only 30 minutes. When I was leaving, the older woman with short hair and glasses who is usually at the front desk, was inside with what I gathered were her grand children since they called her "Nana". As we were leaving, my son tossed a ball at her grandson and he started whining and that woman actually gave my son a dirty look! I later heard from them that she was not a warm and cozy individual. The way I see it, if I'm paying for my kids to be there, the very least you can do is make sure they're treated properly by the employees. The next time I take them, I will first make sure the old woman with short hair and glasses is not working the kids club. I'm actually very surprised at her behavior. Given her age, I would have liked for her to be much more cordial.
