Snap Fitness
Reviews
I represent Snap Fitness ("Snap"). This note responds to the comments of Kim Schmunk. / Snap's owner was born in Pakistan. The manager & other employees are from Latin America; English is their second language. / Ms. Schmunk was a three-month member of Snap in mid-2012 via a student promotion. Though Snap's television audio is accessed via personal radio, she would increase the external volume of the television she was watching, thereby troubling other members. / She returned in Dec. 2012 & executed a month-to-month membership agreement. It stated that it could be canceled on one month's written notice. She initialed this provision & signed the agreement. / In Feb. 2013 she called Snap & then appeared in person there. She loudly & bitterly complained of credit card charges for membership dues. She also called one of Snap's employees a "joke." / Snap's owner's wife advised her of the written-notice requirement to cancel. Her response on the phone was repeated screams that Snap provided "lousy customer service." In person at the gym, she was loud, hateful, & threatening. She screamed, "Do you have any idea what customer service is?" She derided as "ridiculous" the cancellation form she requested & received. She again called one employee a "joke," another "rude," & the manager a "liar." / Snap's owner politely advised her that her comments contained racial overtones. Her response: "Are you calling me a racist?" He stated that it was "beginning to sound like it." She immediately yelled at him, asked if he was going to hit her, & then snapped at the owner's wife, "Does he beat you up?" / Snap's owner went outside. Ms. Schmunk shortly stormed out. She appeared to be talking to herself. She walked toward her car but then turned around & asked the owner, "Did you just call me a bitch?" He said no. She went inside the gym & screamed, "He just called me a bitch!" She then left the premises. / Decades ago Snap's owner emigrated to the U.S. with just a suitcase & modest savings. He & his wife have been happily married for 32 years. They have engaged in the retail franchise business for many years & have owned three different businesses. / Snap's owners have an outstanding customer service record. Many gym members who joined at or near the gym's inception in 2008 remain dedicated members. (I am one such member.) A recent customer service survey resulted in scores of five out of five with very few exceptions. / In summary, Ms. Schmunk's allegations are simply false.
BEWARE! I specifically made an account just to leave my review about this establishment. I walked into snap in December 2012 waited about 30 minutes to discuss my membership with someone. Finally some knucklehead came up had me sign up and didn't even take any payment information. I had to say, "Hey, don't you need to have me pay for it?" I mean, really? Who doesn't properly train their employees? He took my credit card information and then when I came into workout the next day and my key didn't work. I had to contact them letting them know that it wasn't working and Jose called me back telling me that I had to make yet another trip over there so that I could PROPERLY fill out the paperwork. I told jose, I only want this membership for a month. I told him to give me just the month-to-month membership. I specifically said this. He had me sign up and KNOWING that I just wanted the membership for the month didn't say oh hey JUST SO YOU KNOW WE WILL BE CHARGING YOUR DEBIT CARD EVEN AFTER THE MONTH IS OVER. I mean really. Just incredibly dishonest and scummy people. I will never join this gym again. UPDATE: Just went into Snap to cancel my membership in person. Nancy and her husband gave me the form along with her attorney's information. WTF? I proceeded to tell her how unbelievably TERRIBLE her customer service skills were and her husband chimmed in and not only called me racist ( i was born and raised in latin america. i am a minority) but he also said "f*ck you" under his breath and called me a "b*tch" on my way out!! I couldn't believe it! ARE THESE PEOPLE INSANE?
Caution to anyone else, especially those looking for a short-term gym membership while staying in Charlottesville: I called this gym, said I was only in town for 2 weeks (I made this very clear) and what could they offer as a weekly or other temp membership? Manager said he had a UVA student special for a month for $33. After confirming with him that this was the _total_ price for a month, I drove over to join--whereupon he charged me $33 for a month, plus $20 key fee, plus $25 or so joining fee, acting as if all this was an incredible special he was willing to offer me. WTF?! I told him forget it, that I didn't appreciate his bait and switch, and to please be more honest in citing prices on the phone. Totally slimy and dishonest behavior. The gym did look nice, but be aware of the owner piling up last-minute "fees" when you try to join.
I worked out at a nearby, larger gym for a couple of years before this one opened up. This gym is so much better. 24/7 access (if you work out at the other gym, I hope you don't ever feel like working out on a weekend evening), no mandatory year-long contracts, and a radio station that doesn't play the same few songs over and over again.
