The Edge Fitness Clubs - Stratford
Reviews
The Edge in Stratford is by far the worst Gym I have ever been a member of, and I've held memberships at a lot of gyms. Unfriendly clientele, annoying staff, horrible equipment. Equipment: The plates don't slide smoothly onto the bars, and get stuck consistently. There aren't enough barbells for the equipment in the gym. There aren't enough 45lb plates in the gym and you end up protecting your weights from thieves. Some of the leg machines cotter pins don't stay in place and the machines will constantly become unhinged and mess up during a workout. Clientele: The worst part of this gym is the etiquette of the members. No one has any clue what's going on. Members lift less than a foot from the dumbbell racks, making it impossible for other members to get weights. People will come to a rack you are using (e.g. smith machine) and take the weights you have if you aren't paying attention without asking. I workout with my wife and we use different weights, and if I turn to spot her they will steal my 45 lb plates. Everyone leaves everything everywhere, no remorse, they just leave their crap everywhere without racking it. People will 4-5 different machines throughout the gym and get upset when you didn't realize they were using it from across the gym. Staff: The trainers in this gym are the biggest joke. They have the worst etiquette of all the members, leaving weights, working out in inconvenient areas, not asking to take weights, and having no clue what they are talking about, with qualifications like "has always been into sports" and "motivated to help you do your best". These aren't qualifications, just crap to make you think they have a clue. The only reason I workout here is I live across the street, but am contemplating giving up my 3 minute walk for a 25 minute drive to Powerhouse. If you're serious about the gym, you should never consider Stratford Edge.
I've been a member of the edge at multiple facilities for over 5 years. I can say the Stratford gym is by far the worst. I have made numerous attempts to bring the shortcomings of this facility to the management and staff that work there. It's obvious they're much more interested in socializing with each other showing off or possibly selling personal training. It's really disappointing and in fact oftentimes dangerous how messy the gym is its very very frustrating that it's the closest and most convenient gym but I still think I might quit just because of how awful it is. If the edge ' s ownership invested in upgrading anything in that facility it would be an improvement but its obvious the only thing they invest in are marketing and developing other facilities, this place is crumbling and I imagine it will close
Horrible experience trying to cancel my service. You basically have to pull your pants down and bend over to get them to acknowledge that you've moved out of the region.
I have a medical condition not allowing me to work out as much as i used too, so when i decided to cancel at the edge, i had to talk to multiple representatives at customer care, each gave me different excuses as to why my account could not be cancelled even though i had a doctors note. One said that i need my note to say "permanently disabled" after i already called my doctor and received my note. These people literally go to the ends of the earth to keep your money.
Small but pleasant. What can I say, I go and workout and have no problems. Plenty of parking and the staff gets an A plus for friendliness. The bathroom at times have no paper towels. When that happens I tell the front desk and they put some in.
