Gold's Gym

After spending $1000s of dollars on personal trainers and being a member for six years I wanted to put my membership on hold for three months and was charged $59.99 which included a "freeze" fee nobody told me about plus my membership fees and I need to pay another membership fee. I thought the circled amount was the money I would save. Not one single world to me that it would cost me any money to freeze my membership. I had completed any contract I had with them years ago. Geez if they knew what they were doing they would have told me it was cheaper to just pay my monthly fees. My sister froze her account for 6 months and they didn't charge her a dime so why would I think they would charge me not to use them for a few months. It was just sign here, here, and here. My personal trainer quit and they would not refund any money. Not that they ever called in the three months after she left to set me up with someone else but now I have sixty days to use it or loose it. So when I went in with steam coming out of my ears and quit I still had to pay the $45 in three month hold fees, $39.00 in membership fees and they would not not refund my personal trainer prepaid sessions since they have their "rules." They treated me like I was an idiot and I guess I am. I will just chalk this up to my own stupidity that people are honest. Until then my experience was good, but they ruined any good opinion I had of them. I deal with people all the time and would never do that to someone. I felt bad but I quit Tanco too and they have always been nice and would let me put my account on hold for $1 a month when I wanted too and I knew perfectly where I stood with them but they were in the same building and I will never walk in there again. Maybe I am not retired military, but I am a veteran and was actually in a war. They seem to give them a break but not if you are the average Joe.
I enjoyed the gym while I was a member but decided to take a cheaper, more convenient route. I have tried three times to cancel my account and I am still receiving bills in the mail. I tried to cancel it in the gym and over the phone. I even sent in a final check with "membership cancellation" written in the memo and I just received another bill in the mail. I have not been to the gym since January. In January, I paid off my remaining balance and told them I am not renewing, yet I continue to have fees. I joined Club Fitness and I love it... All I want to do is cancel my membership! Do not join this gym unless you plan to never pay off your membership and cancel. Ending your time with this gym is like going through an expensive and very stressful divorce.
2nd time I've been here in 2 years. Always stop when I'm in the area. Good equipment, but free weights section is a little small/tight. Definitely recommend tho!
I have been a member for over three years and have no complaints. It is by far cheaper than the YMCA and the play area is way better. We were paying $60 a month at YMCA and now that is cut in half. The staff is friendly and I enjoy going to this gym. I don't understand why all these people are complaining. Are they going to the same gym I am? I seriously doubt it. Bill and his staff are doing an outstanding job in my opinion.
My experience with Gold's Gym have been pretty negative. The way they communicate need for payment, no itemized bills, etc. I paid for the entire year at one point, and signed a form cancelling membership at the end of the year, and then 6 months later, I get bills, and come to find out they had no record of the cancellation. Fortunately I had a copy that I faxed to them. Several weeks later I get another bill, and had to call them again. If things are truly closed out remains to be seen. I am sure if I would not have had a copy of the cancellation, that I would still be paying. Either some of their processes are broken or they are operating as intended to keep you paying whether you have cancelled or not...
