World Gym

I recently cancelled my membership. The classes got worse and worse and fewer and fewer. I joined at first because they had Body Pump and Body Combat. They don't have them anymore although some intructors illegally use the Body Pump format. Who trains the cycle instructors? According to practically all indoor cycle certs a "sprint" over 111 to 120 rpm is dangerous and participants should be instructed to add more resistance instead of leg turnover. Also "isolations" where you stand and go very slowly moving only the legs is a containdicated exercise. The instructors do not train safe classes. They do not look at form either. On the plus side the Personal Trainers who are contracted from Longevity Studios are extremely proficient. I did email the manager and group ex director several times to enquire about the lack of classes but I never received a reply. I just gave up.
This gym is turning into the womens gym down the street but with less decor. The classes are dull. The boxing room has never been finished and there is not enough boxing classes or athletic type classes for men offered (or for women who actually want a good solid workout) unless you want to take a dance style class. . One or two instructors monopolize the schedule. They seem to be house wives just looking for a place to gossip and not too worried about what type of workout their members are getting. Someone needs to review the schedule as it is getting worse each month. The Run class was great but that and the instructor who was very good have vanished from the schedule too. If you want to be different (better) from the other gym give us back the run class and the boxing class. You can take BOSU at Jazzersize! The gym and childcare are both very big but do not offer much although at least the childcare employees are usually friendly. This gym is not what i expected when i heard the owner of the Fort Washington Gym is opening one here in Laplata. If you want a good hard workout this gym is not the place. Too bad too i had high expectations and high hopes. I will definately join a different gym once my membership expires.
The staff is poorly trained and incredibly rude. They will always choose to help/talk to gym rats that are there religiously while ignoring everyone else. One of the owners is very unfriendly too, and does not hesitate to be rude to customers who aren't his friends. The child-care they offer is a joke. Most of the kids in there belong to staff and will be the ones receiving attention while your kids are ignored. A number of times while working out I would peek in the window to the kids room and see the staff sitting at a table with their backs to the kids, gossiping and not even caring what the kids were doing. If you have a small infant, they have a special section just for them that has to have one staff in it at all times. Yep, that's not happening. They'll put your child in there, still strapped into the car seat and leave them there with no one in the section with them. Be careful when you go into the room, because if you open the door too fast, you'll probably hit a child, as there is always one trying to escape. They advertise a "women only" wing. Useless. It doesn't have anywhere near the equipment that the co-ed side does. And most of the machines work the same muscle groups, so there's no diversity. Plus, there are always men cutting through it (which doesn't make sense b/c the only thing on the other side is the women's locker room). If you have a year long membership, make sure if you don't want to renew, that you make sure you tell them MONTHS in advance and put it in writing, then have a manager/owner sign it. Cause if you don't they will sue you for a supposed "breach of contract" by not automatically renewing for another year. I know of multiple former-employees who have quit from there because even they were treated like crap from management and owners. And as revenge for quitting, the owners refuse to give them their final paychecks and after months of being asked for them, they claim they were "lost:" and pretty much tell the ex-employees, too bad so sad. You're better off finding another gym to use, like La Plata Fitness or CSM's gym.Don't bother giving these crooks your money. I wish I could give this place negative stars.
