This is an awesome gym with a great staff and it is the best value of any fitness facility I've ever been to. The coaches are knowledgeable, energetic, and encouraging which keeps the workouts challenging without being boring. Stu, owner and coach, is driven to make each athlete succeed on an individual level - whether it be weight loss, muscle mass gain, or general fitness improvement. The gym is driven by the needs and goals of the athletes that make up the membership. One of the surest signs the gym is all about the members is that it is in a perpetual state of upgrade - new, more, and better equipment as they become available and the needs of the members change. Additionally, Stu tinkers with adding specialty classes, new class times, and varying degree of experience classes to accommodate practically every type of schedule and skill level. I would highly recommend coming in for a class and talking to a coach, though be careful - you might end up joining!
Joining ESC Fitness was the best decision I ever made! I first joined the gym to get in shape, try something new, and hopefully make some friends. I have accomplished all of those at ESC. I have pushed myself harder than I ever thought possible and have made some serious changes to my lifestyle. I learn something new every day, and my goals are constantly changing. And everyone at the gym is so encouraging! The coaches and other members make you feel like you are a part of a team and hold you accountable while also cheering you on every step of the way. I came in with no athletic ability and completely out of shape, and I never felt like I didn't belong. If you are looking for a challenge and are willing to work hard, ESC is the best gym out there!
No doubt the most life changing decision I've ever made. Nothing has improved my overall fitness, strength and endurance like CrossFit SouthEnd. The coaching is fantastic! You are not just thrown to the wolves. If you're a beginner you start in the fundamentals class and work your way up. If you're pro there are many options for pushing your limits.
Five stars? More like five and one half stars! maybe even five and three quarters. CFSE is a place to excel at something which we all desire deep down inside: change. I'll admit that the first time I walked in and saw people performing monstrous feats of strength and endurance that make any new "Avenger's" movie look like kids on a playground, I was daunted. "What are they on?" I kept thinking. They're on the bullet-train to Awesomeville, that's what they're on. Affecting change is often hard, but with a super-human staff of coaches it will feel like a summer breeze at the ocean wafting across your skin as you metamorphosize into an advanced species that will make the average gym-goer jealous of your new found power. Do it for yourself, do it for liberty, nay, do it for the future because there are people in your life depending on you to be the best "you" you can be, and, that journey starts at CFSE.
Crossfit Southend ranks among the best crossfit gyms I've trained at and overall best experience I've had at a box. Having been a part of various boxes over the past few years, I can definitively say CFSE is above all the rest. The box owner, Stu, is one of the most accommodating owners and is always looking to improve the gym as well as the members who train there. PROGRAMMING/COACHES: Stu and the coaching staff really do take the time to ensure that technique takes precedent over getting directly into the workouts. Not only do they hammer home technique, they are always willing to modify the WOD if you are not up-to-par or working through some injury. On top of the excellent coaching, CFSE offers a variety of classes tailored to different areas, including a beginners class and a strength class, and coaches are always willing to spend extra time helping you tweak something you've been working on. ATMOSPHERE: Some gyms aren't always inviting and can be intimidating, but CFSE has developed into a strong community. From day 1 the environment was welcoming, open, and comfortable. Stu's "unique" way of explaining things really lends itself to an all-inclusive culture in which everyone feels as if you are working out with a huge group of friends/family. EQUIPMENT: CFSE delivers again in this category as they have every piece of equipment needed to constantly incorporate the various movements/workouts Crossfit is known for. Whether it's rowers, rings, prowlers, ropes, air dyne bikes, the gym is sure to keep you on your toes by training different aspects of fitness. Not only do they utilize all the various equipment, Stu is consistently updating the gym equipment. PROS: Excellent coaching Variety of classes (conditioning, strength, mobility, fundamentals) Constantly improving the gym Inviting atmosphere CONS: Jury is out on this one
