I have had a terrible experience with this gym. While it was under different management a few years back, I cancelled my membership due to my experience. Once I canceled, my card was still charged and it was a major hassle to get anything resolved. When they changed names, I signed up again a year back and started personal training sessions 6 months ago. The gym is overcrowded and I was behind 20 sessions with my trainer so I knew it wasn't for me now either. I tried calling to cancel and they said I owed them another month of service and 25% of my remaining contract. I told them I was behind 20+ sessions and have been paying for them, can they not just forward the balance and not pay the 25%. They said that is not possible, I have to do 20 some sessions in the next 30 days, pay for the month, and the 25%. So I have to pay them $400 for not getting what I already paid for? It was an OK gym with good rates, but the customer service is terrible and if you want to cancel your membership, I hope you have $400 saved up.
The billing company, a third party, is terrible, for so many reasons. BUT, the best trainer in the world, Mania Rosen, works there and for that reason I give this place 5 stars. I can't be effusive enough about him. He trains able bodied and disabled bodies: I had an unsuccessful foot surgery years ago and have had terrible pain daily until his workouts. He currently has clients in wheel chairs, as well as pros in the gym. He is a black belt in tae kwon do (I think that's the type), and my regular resistance training has morphed into MMA training: LOVE IT! He is incredibly knowledgable, and will kick your ass if that's the kind of training you want (I do), or not. HIRE THIS TRAINER! You will be so glad you did.
Can't say enought about the personal training I am receiving at Fitness Connect on Morehead. The sign up process was smooth and there were a lot of options to choose from to meet my financial needs. I had an injury with my arm and Alex paired me with a personal trainer who specializes in injuries. Mania, my trainer is awsome! He is a true professional. In his manner, his knowledge and his ability to communicate. My arm no longer hurts and I am on the way to being in the best shape I have been in for years. I recommend the personal training at Fitness Connect with a 5 star score!
I was a member of the Fitness Connection in Cornelius. I thought it would be a good idea to sign up with a gym with so many locations. Unfortunately, this was the dirtiest and least organized gym I have ever gone to. The showers had mold growing in the corners. Members, don't wipe down their equipment (probably because there are no towels and the only paper towel dispensers are placed far away from everything) The staff is not friendly or motivating, but instead feel like used car salesmen. Additionally, the contract locks you in and requires a 30 day written notice to cancel (so they can get paid for a month of not providing any service at all) as well as charging you additional fees twice a year for maintenance (which they do not even do) They also don't have the Cornelius, and most other locations on Google Maps, which seems to be their tactic for avoiding honest reviews like this. Bottom line is that Fitness Connection is not concerned with client satisfaction or retention. Do yourself a favor a pay a few more bucks for YMCA or Gold's.
Horrible experience. I joined this gym and signed papers, that much was my terrible mistake. But I tried to get out of the membership and realized I couldn't because of a contract. I understand that. So I waited it out as I was told I had to by some third party group (ABC Financial). I've found that they continued a contract after my year contract was up because I never gave them a 30 day notice. They have charged me 4 months of membership when I don't even live in the Charlotte area anymore. They provide just about the worst customer service I've ever experienced. I second another reviewer and encourage you to steer clear. In no way should you EVER give these guys your credit card info. They will take more than you agree to and you will NOT get it back. Bottom Line: This is no place to go if you value customer service and being treated like a person.
