Friendship CrossFit

I have been a member here for over a year and certainly recommend it. I started at age 40 after realizing my current fitness plan wasn't working. In fact, it was failing. Prior to joining, I heard all the rumors about Crossfit. "It’s a cult", "It's not safe"...... Here is what I discovered at Friendship Crossfit: The staff is extremely helpful. Since membership varies from out of shape beginners to skilled athletes they spend the extra time to adjust the strength building pieces and workouts to the individual. I have never felt pressure to lift as much as the person next to me. I have only been encouraged to focus on improving my form and effort to get better. The pacing is appropriate. The program is designed to begin with at least two to three weeks of orientation classes. It's a workout, but its primary purpose is to teach you the movements in a small group setting with other beginners. After On Ramp, you move to any of the classes offered each day. You won't be pressured to buy sports drinks or supplements. Obviously, diet is a key factor to fitness. You may hear about some healthy recipes or optional diet challenges. However, the focus is always around encouraging you to get healthier....not making money by selling product. You will be sore. Patience and determination are important as you introduce/reintroduce these movements to your body. All members are sore as the workouts are always changing. Warning!!! The owners here are very intentional about building and maintaining community. Don't be surprised if you are invited to work out with a partner, attend a social event or participate in a charity event. Relationships are truly valued here and it makes the experience much more enjoyable. For me, this gym provides the perfect balance and has allowed me incorporate fitness into my lifestyle rather than the grind of the mega gym or treadmill. I look forward to attending class.
I have been CrossFitting for two years and wanted to try out one of the local boxes when I was in Columbus for the OSU - Nebraska football game. A quick internet search led me to Friendship CrossFit in Dublin, OH. I went to the 10:00 am WOD on Saturday morning with a friend of mine and was very impressed with everything. First-and most important to me-the people at Friendship CF were great. As soon as I walked in the door, I was greeted by Jeff, the owner, and Jay, one of the coaches. They were very friendly and recommended some great OSU football experiences as soon as they found out why I was in town. The box itself was also great: very spacious and well thought out. They have a great pullup rig in the center of an open space, with lots of room on either side for other movements. They have a couple ropes (I can't remember how many) hanging from the ceiling and four rowing machines. They had enough Olympic bars and weights to accommodate ~15 people doing heavy dead lifts. The box has a garage opening and a 400m route through the parking lot traffic. The WOD itself was pretty cool (death by walking lunge immediately followed by death by burpees and finishing with a 10 min EMOM on 1 rep 80% max deadlift + 3 max height jumps. It was challenging and fun. The coaches (Jeff and Jay) were nice and even took the time to critique my dead lift. This was an unexpected (and appreciated) occurrence considering I was a guest CrossFitter and they had 15 members there. I would recommend Friendship CF to anyone who is local and considering CF or people who are in town for a few days. I plan to go back next time I'm in Columbus
I can't recommend this gym highly enough. Before I joined, I was doing the same exercise routines that I had always done, and I was in a rut. Friendship has taken my workouts to another level, it is always something different, and I'm surrounded by a great group of people who make it all fun. Beyond that, CrossFit has not only improved what I'm able to do inside of the gym, but also how I live outside of the gym. I'm excited to find new challenges to take on. I encourage you to come in and give it a try. Look for me in the 7 p.m. class.
I teach and coach at a local high school and have therefore never been much into gym memberships--I just used our weightroom for free. I have to echo what Don posted because I can't find a better way to say it. I can't recommend this gym highly enough. Period. FCF is truly an all inclusive, next level crossfit gym. In addition to being crossfit certified and incredibly knowledgeable about the entire universe of lifts, movements, set/rep schemes, and workouts involved in crossfit, the instructors, Jeff Binek, Jay Malone, and Tom Heban are always on time, excited for class, excellent communicators, and very easily approached. They have created a fantastically unique community of males and females of all ages (20's-50's) at FCF, where everyday the crossfit prescription of constantly varied, high-intensity workouts involving functional movements is followed where the coaches and clients are able to push and challenge one another to reach new heights of fitness within an environment where one can be simultaneously ecstatic for your fellow client and agitated when he/she beats your workout time or sets a higher personal record than you and gets on the Big Board. There really is no way to describe the experience that will fully do it justice. As a teacher I have found that most students learn best by doing and I highly recommend that you stop by FCF and try it for yourself. I did back in June 2011 and have only regretted not being able to do it sooner.
Friendship Crossfit, FCF, has offered me exactly what I was looking to add to my workout routine; a butt-kicking experience every time I walk through the doors. Having never done crossfit before and anxious about starting in on the unknown with things like Olympic weightlifting, I sought a place with knowledgeable coaches. From the moment I stepped into my first elements course the coaches’ attentiveness to my execution of every move was impeccable. This attention to detail and movement safety has never faltered at any class in the 4 months I have been a member. The coaches also serve to set the bar high for each individual, which has pushed me to achieve more than I ever thought I was capable. Simply, it has changed my definition of personal fitness. But more than being a huge fan of what crossfit has to offer, I am enthusiastic about the environment in which I get to train. My fellow members at every class are so encouraging and up-beat that going to the gym every night and sweating alongside all skill levels has made working out an addiction, a way of life again. There is a sense of accountability in our community and nothing builds camaraderie more than the shared pain and laughter like that fostered at FCF!
