CrossFit Hyperion
Reviews
I'm 24 years old and I have been going to Crossfit Hyperion for over a year now. I've seen tremendous changes in my own personal life since I started. I used to be a very fit teenager, playing 9-10 months of sports every year. When I started working full time after high school I wasn't able to keep up my physique working at the mall or sitting behind a desk. I quickly turned from slim and healthy to not as fit and eating fast food for at least 1 meal every day for convenience. My dad hooked me up with a couple month trial to see if I liked Crossfit because he was tired of seeing me fat and lazy. I immediately loved it. Trevor is an amazing coach who knows his stuff. Bruce is as genuine as they come! I've learned so much about lifting that I never knew before and I've been able to increase all of my lifts (the correct way!!) ever since I started. I like the physical push as well as the psychological battle that occurs every workout. I have a deep respect for anyone that gets out and exercises, but an even greater one for my fellow crossfitters. There is NOTHING else like it and it can change your life like it has changed so many others.
CrossFit Hyperion was the place were my passion for crossfit started. I was inspired by the friendly community of determined people who workout here. The professionalism and high expectations from the coaches encourage me to give my best every day. I love how they provide the whole package - from the equipment, the WOD, and the coach available every day, to the nutritional workshops, protein supplements, and even really cool gym outfits!
I have been to a couple of Crossfit boxes and Hyperion is a great place. Everyone is super accepting no matter what your fitness level. Hyperion has the knowledge and tools to help you achieve any of your fitness goals. Hyperion is more than just a gym, I consider everyone there a friend and there is great camaraderie. Also, the 2014 Crossfit Open proved Hyperion is the fittest gym in Utah County.
What can I say about myself… I’ve always been a “solidly built” human being and having Latin American origins – especially Portuguese ancestry, I’ve always had thick legs and arms – in summary – I’ve NEVER EVER been skinny… And that has always bothered me because we live in a world where stick skinny is the ideal for beauty... So my whole life has been a battle against the numbers on the scale. It has been hard and very stressful, to a point where I’ve had several meltdowns and just wanted to give up and eat myself until I could actually give someone a reason to call me fat. I’ve tried everything you can imagine… A Gold’s Gym membership (I paid for a three year contract and went probably 5 times during that time – yes I flushed money down the toilet), I’ve tried running, Aerobics, Zumba (which I still love)… But nothing seemed to give me the motivation that I needed. Zumba was – and still is – a lot of fun, but I got really upset every time that I tried lifting a dumbbell at the gym and didn’t have enough strength to do so, or I tried to do more intense aerobic exercise and felt like I was gonna die because I didn’t have enough air… Then a friend told me that she had started this crazy thing called CrossFit and that she was dying, but she told me that I had to try it because she was sure I was going to love it. Before I even tried a class I did some research online about CrossFit itself and also looked around for gyms to see what the prices were, reviews from others, etc., and I ended up trying a class at Hyperion – the same gym she comes to. I was scared and a little intimidating at first when I saw all these ripped women lifting absurd amounts of weight over their heads… I was like “What if one of those bars falls on one of these girls’ heads?” But as I was introduced to the coaches I felt a sense of tranquility that for the longest time I hadn’t felt. I was sore for a whole week after that WOD. But I felt that I should come back. And I did. And it was THE BEST decision I’ve made in a long time. Since I started CrossFit at Hyperion I can actually lift a decent amount of weight (hehe) and I feel happy every time I get to the gym (with a few butterflies in my stomach because I’m always anxious for the WOD), and every time I leave the gym (for having accomplished more than I was expecting that day). I have gotten rid of my body image issues, since now I think that my big legs and butt can accomplish more than the sticks that support those models. I learned to be grateful for my body and for knowing what it is capable of accomplishing. Trevor and Bruce are simply amazing owners and friends – they are always there to help you with whatever you need. Jenny, Darcie, Lindsey, Cody and Nikki are amazing coaches and are also encouraging me to do better every time, and to draw one more breath to complete another rep and overcome my biggest obstacle – myself. I could not have asked for a better place to be. I’m grateful for the friendships that I have made at Hyperion and for the family and community feeling that I experience every day. They make every cent of my money count here, and I don’t mind driving from Draper every single day to be with my family. I would not change my membership at Hyperion for anything in this world. I still go to Zumba, but just for fun… I found my real passion in CrossFit, thanks to CrossFit Hyperion.
I have worked out at CrossFit Hyperion for about 2 years now and since starting up my wife and several of my friends have joined as well. As far as Crossift Boxes I have seen in Utah County Hyperion is exceptional. From the trainers, equipment, and people Hyperion has really done it right. Not all boxes are created equal, Hyperion is a gold standard when it comes to CrossFit gyms in Utah.
