I recently relocated to Indianapolis, and I was quite pleased to find that there were several YMCAs scattered about Indianapolis and its suburbs. The one that I'm most familiar with is the Jordan YMCA, since it's the one I go to regularly. It has just about everything I could want in a gym from great machines in excellent condition, to a really clean establishment, to amazing, caring staff.

The environment in the Jordan YMCA preschool is very dynamic and children see a dozen different teachers in a full week of preschool, enrichment and aftercare. Our child was so emotionally disturbed by the constant flux that he was so stressed he was experiencing rage and being chastized for "bad" behavior. The children use unkind words and label their peers and the before/after care teachers do not intervene. Our child was consumed by negativity, even on weekends. The directors pay lipservice to working with the parents but in reality are entirely inflexible and will not accommodate individual needs of children. To be clear: the teachers are wonderful, but the directors do not give them the flexibility to apply their own judgement and skill in the classroom. As a half-day program, the YMCA preschool might work for your family, but the full-day program and especially before-care, is not suitable for a sensitive preschooler. The directors claim they prepare children for elementary school; what they don't realize is that the elementary school environment is not suitable for young preschoolers and emulating it is not age-appropriate.

I love this location. There are more sports for toddlers at this location. And the fitness classes are a lot of fun. My son and I love the Jordan Y
