Courts Plus Fitness Center
Reviews
The instructors and most of the staff are great, however everything else (especially the child care) leaves something to be desired. We ran into several minor problems during our year and a half as members, however the final straw was when my daughter was 5 months old and someone came to get me because she was again, inconsolable in their words. I went up there and found her lying on the floor in the infant area. She was alone, and screaming so hard she was shaking. Every single one of the girls working was standing around chatting away while she screamed. I picked her up, got my son and we left. I only went back once, to cancel. I let the manager know exactly why we were leaving and that we had found another gym with great care for our children.
Very unprofessional people, very rude! I called in January to cancel the membership, spoke to some girl, who put me on very long hold and then came back and said membership was cancelled. Now I see $53 trying to come out of the account. Called Court's Plus, was given number to the billing office. Called there, explained situation, spoke to office manager Melissa, who refused to refund the money, even though we haven't been to Court's Plus in more than a month. Said I could not remember girl's name, so according to policy she's not going to do anything. Even after I told her my husband will get new membership under his name, I was refused in very rude tones. Called Court's Plus back, spoke to manager Jennifer, who said she understands and she sees that nobody used the membership, we can switch to his name and to another rate, but money still would not be refunded. So thanks to $53, Court's Plus lost 4 customers and many more that I will tell this story to. Good Job!
Very rude customer service. They don't charge your account correctly for the correct amount and when you get ORDERS due to the USMC they will not let you get out of it due to being a spouse and moving out of the state. Very rude personnel who handle all the billing issues my credit card was being charged double and due to it NOT being authorized for that amount it was not going through. So when I called to say that my husband got orders and we needed to moved and why my card was being erratically charged they threatened me with collections and made no attempt to make things right with me the customer. Also when my husband called to tell then he had received orders the customer service girl was grilling him asking him questions as to why he was home at the moment and why she could hear his family in the background, Well he was home for a week helping his wife and his autistic child move out of state! Quite frank it was none of her business. So as to why my card was getting charged twice every month I never got answers to why(could of been some fraud going on) just got a rude call back with a threatening voice mail. I never used the gym due to my daughters problems so due to all this I give this one star. They really need to check the people who work there and maybe do some customer service classes.
I have been attending Courts Plus for a bit now and I have been very please overall with my experience. Instead of writing a long drawn out review of things, I've decided that the most effective review I can give will be a "pro" and "con" list. I hope that this helps some with making the choice of whether or not to choose Courts Plus as their fitness headquarters. PROS: - LOCALLY OWNED! - Competitive prices compared to other gyms in the area and around the state. - Will tell you their prices over the phone, which other gyms in this area won't do. - Great staff in the childcare room, one of the few places I'm 100% comfortable leaving my children. - Nice and friendly staff, always polite and willing to help if you need anything. - Variety of workout options including two pools. The plan is to, in the future, switch the pools to salt water (this is a big PRO for me!) - Variety of classes throughout the days/weeks so there is something for everyone. - They offer an alternative plan for just peak hours (or is it off peak? I think it's peak) for a cheaper price. - They have a great program for the first 30 days of enrollment where if you can get anyone else to sign up they will not only waive that person's enrollment fee, your account is credited $50. - Dry sauna. - Although more expensive, they do offer a month-to-month payment plan so you don't have to be locked into anything. CONS: - The enrollment fee is a bit high compared to gyms throughout the state. They do often have "half off" deals, but it's still high. The highest being $126 currently. - They do NOT have free childcare as advertised. The "free" childcare comes with paying for your child to be a member. That meant me paying an extra $20 per month. While this is cheaper than getting a sitter, I believe it to be false advertising that this is "free" or "included" childcare. - Their childcare room, though staffed by amazing people, is a bit...blah. Not very many toys, plain white walls and floor. I think they could be more imaginative in this department for the sake of the kids. NEUTRAL COMMENTS: - Be aware that this is an OLD BUILDING. Sometimes there are leaks after heavy rains, some lockers in the locker rooms don't have hinges. In my opinion this just happens and is neither a pro nor a con. - Don't be turned off by the non-choice of having to walk up stairs to get to the door. Personally I love any excuse to exercise, but I've heard some complaints about this. You get used to it...don't forget why you joined a gym in the first place. - Be prepared that peak hour parking may mean having to park back in the gravel area and walk. Some may consider this a con, but I just see it as a sign of a gym that enough people love that it fills up during peak hours. Good for them! - If you want to pay before your bank account draft day then they don't draft. Very handy for when you have the money NOW and are worried you'll forget the draft is coming out. - They do NOT remind you when your contract is up, and that is stated in the contract. ALWAYS READ CONTRACTS, they are legally binding and you are putting your signature on them. Don't worry about taking up too much of their time, this is something you are agreeing to for one to two years (unless you're doing the month to month plan) so be sure you know what you're agreeing to! Once your contract is up you are moved to a monthly plan for the same price so you can cancel any time, but hopefully you won't want to :) Okay everyone, I hope that this review helped you with your choice. I only chose "very good" instead of excellent because I'm still very displeased with their offer of "included" childcare. I mean I obviously still signed up as it's cheaper than a sitter, but I don't agree with this as I believe it to be false advertising. Have a good day!
Gym was a good environment for families and fitness enthusiasts. my contract ended in 0ct of 2012 and four months later, i was being charged for services i did not even use. When i called about it, they hid behind their contract and stated that they do not send out notices of the end of contracts. Who remembers all of the contracts and legal matters that they sign? No one! This issue was (hopefully) resolved with an email that i just sent asking to stop charges. No leniency was given even though the records indicate that I have not been using the gym for 6+ months. There are better places to lift weights at.
