Fitness Connection - Pleasant Valley

Before joining ask them how many cameras they have and about how many incidents they have per month. Also walk into the locker room... which wasn't shown to me on my initial tour (my fault not too ask, but I would not have joined.) Also ask them about their cancellation protocol, which is online and not user friendly and they require 30 days notice to cancel. Go some place else.
The rave reviews posted here are obviously from someone connected to this business. Hopefully I can be objective. $9.95 gives you access to about 5 clubs in the area and I've been a member for 3 years. Probably the best deal in the area. This club has some problems, the biggest being there is equipment that is broken down and hasn't been repaired in years. This is mainly on the cardio equipment like treadmills. On several the computer programs don't work and haven't been fixed. Or TV doesn't work and hasn't been fixed in 2 years. I've talked to management several times and they claim to be working on it, or that it's the customer's fault. The repair guy claims to be constantly working. I haven't seen it and I avoid this branch. North Hills seems to be the best. Cary is smaller but well run and nice as well. The "rave review" is obviously a lie. He claims to have met someone in the steam room. This facility doesn't have a steam room.
Gym is ok only because its cheap. They do not adequately repair the equipment - I've had to report the same pieces of equipment repeatedly over the course of 6+ months. This is probably a problem with corporate, and, its probably all a matter of getting what we pay for, but if you have more money to spend on a gym you might find a better place?
Came in on a guest past. Best experience ever! It was clean, nicely laid out. I even met this handsome young doctor in the steam room named Brandon. Let's just say they should sanitize that place!
Let me preface by saying when I signed up the representative claimed that their printer wasn't working which is why he couldn't show me or have me sign an actual hard contract. So nothing was ever signed. Later I saw why. I paid $110.21 when I signed up and I was told after requesting that the money over and above the $49.00 membership fee would be applied as a credit to my account so that I could avoid a monthly draft. I was advised that they did need a card number on file but that it would not be charged as long as I had a credit. I later found out that the money was not applied as a credit but to a $50.00 promotional box of protein for which I was never given and I was being charged anyway. It wasn't until they were unable to obtain a credit card payment (I cancel cards regularly for my protection) that they suspended my membership for non-payment, requested an updated card and assessed a $20 late fee (equal to one month's membership). I disputed the late fee because I would have never consented to a ridiculous policy that seeks to collect a late fee for a no- contract, no-obligation, prepaid gym situation. There is no risk on the part of the gym because if I don't prepay (which I'm not obligated to do) they can simply not let me in. Late Fee? Please. I was told by a manager to call corporate to dispute the late fee. When I asked for a copy of my signed contract he told me that corporate would send it to me because his computer wasn't giving him the option to print. In hindsight, I'm sure he looked at my scanned contract on his computer, saw how much was wrong about the original transaction ie. no signature, misrepresentations about what I had paid for and simply said he couldn't print it. He told me I needed to contact corporate for a copy of my contract Of course, corporate told me the exact opposite on multiple calls - that the branch would need to provide the contract......which on a later visit after a runaround, they finally did. The manager did nothing as far as accepting responsibility for the fraudulent charges or the misconduct of his employees. He had a very flippant attitude saying on more than one occasion " what do you want me to do?" He said however that he couldn't or wouldn't reverse the charges for the protein. He did offer the box of protein that I was originally and unknowingly charged for but I declined because I don't take protein , didn't want it and wouldn't want one that was marked up 3x times if I did use it. Then, they wouldn't let me cancel because of this late fee and when I went to cancel my girlfriend's membership (for which I pay) the manager threatened to call the police if I continued to threaten him. Amazing. So I had to go on the record and call the police so that he couldn't play the "customer is threatening me" card, please remove him from the premises. I would strongly recommend that you go somewhere else for your fitness needs. This location has changed ownership many times but the shady character of the this place has remained constant. Never again
