LA Fitness

To briefly describe my experience, LA Fitness was unable to deliver things they promised. Specifically in the realm of services offered and what they cost. My wife has belonged to multiple clubs and small workout facilities. This has been by far the worst experience to date. My wife recently signed up for a membership at the 19th street Moore, OK location. One of her driving factors for joining was the childcare. LA Fitness told my wife childcare was $10/month on top of her normal membership. However, they failed to mention you had to sign up for childcare within 7 days. My wife was in the process of making sure she needed childcare in regard to her work schedule. 10 days later, she goes to sign up for childcare and they wanted to charge her $15/month instead. After multiple phone calls to managers and customer service in a different state - no one could deliver what we wanted. The promised $10/month childcare. If LA Fitness refuses to please a new customer - how do they treat their long time customers? Any company that refuses to change their 'protocol' to achieve good customer service in my opinion is a bogus company. We refuse to give our money to a company who could care less about their actual customers hard earned money. We weren't pushing the protocol - we had missed the 7 day signup period that wasn't mentioned by less than a week. In addition to this, my wife took a spin class here and the instructor was not in what she would classify as "instructor shape". The instructor had a hard time even completing the class. The instructor had to take breaks in order to complete the class. My wife didn't get the workout she wanted. We have been members for less than 2 weeks. If we have experienced these kind of problems already - I can't imagine what it is like to belong for an entire year, or longer. We were forced to cancel our membership at this time. LA Fitness could have had a long time customer had they simply allowed us the childcare for $10/month. It says a lot about a company that won't make an exception for a mistake on their part - failure to mention the 7 day childcare signup deadline. I would hope LA Fitness takes more pride in their company and even more pride in pleasing their customers. LA Fitness requires you to pay your first and last month at the time of signup. I now know why they require that. So they have the ability to rob customers of two months of membership when they don't deliver on their promises.
I got a 3-day pass to this place in order to try it out. It is not a bad gym. But for the amount of money invested, it should be much better. To summarize the place, if a car dealership, a Starbucks, and a gym all had a baby together, it would be LA Fitness. They have a good amount of equipment here. There are plenty of squat racks, but not enough benches. They do have multiple cable pin-loaded machines, but they are spread across the facility, which means a possible 3-5 minute walk from one piece of equipment to another. Their dumbbells only go up to 100lbs, which is a disappointment for a gym this size, but the dumbbells they do have are very nice. They do have the "spot assist" benches, but they have not been maintained well, and the arms do not go back to their original positions once you unrack the weight. They have a plethora of pin-loaded machines. Also, the child care center looks very nice. I would say that the worst part of this gym is the design. All of the free-weight is in the main area downstairs, barring their large combo pin-loaded machine (a big combination of cables for pull-downs, rows, bis and tris...). This means that if you want to add a pin-loaded machine into your work out, you have to walk upstairs to get to it, and then back downstairs (a big deal on leg day). Imagine doing squats, and then walking upstairs to do some leg extensions on a pin loaded machine, only to find that 2 guys are already using it. You had to walk all of the way upstairs, and across the gym, just to find out that the equipment you want to use is taken. Their upstairs area is disconnected as well. They have an open area for abs and medicine ball work, but it is honestly too large. And it is on the other side of the upstairs area as the pin-loaded circuit and a majority of the cardio. This means that the cardio they have upstairs is spread around sporadically. It would make much more sense to have the cardio completely in one area/side, and the ab area and pin-loaded circuit on the other side. Lastly, the restrooms are very badly designed. The sinks are between the lockers and the showers/toilets. This means that guys get in the shower, and then walk across the sink area soaking wet, into the locker area. So any time you walk into the restroom, it looks as though a pack of shaggy dogs tracked across the tile. Obviously, the showers should've been next to the lockers. Again, this is not a bad gym, and is worth the money. But, for the amount of money tied into it, some simple ergonomics and planning could improve it. Unfortunately, a lot of the bad design was done when they constructed the building, and LA Fitness has to live with it.
Perfect, Simply the Best Gym.
