I have been going to this location recently.... the customer service so far is fair.... only today was off... the person at the front wasn't even give a crap who was walking in or leaving. Kept talking to the person next to her as i walked in... and when i left... it was like i wasnt even there. But so far, it's ok.. i dont like the layout of it . I prefer the cardio machines to be on the 2nd floor.... and the swiming pool could be less UP IN THE FRONT! At least could had a one way glass mirror.... anyone that walks in the door can see whos in the pool.. some ppl like myself, i dont feel comfortable with that !
I left Planet Fitness because LA Fitness had a pool, sauna and many more cardio options. Additionally, they have aerobic classes that fit my schedule. I agree that they do push the personal trainer option. I would love a personal trainer a few days a week, but I just cannot afford it. I stood my ground and told them that I would re-visit this in the future, but for now, I could not participate over and above the monthly dues. All in all, I am very happy I joined. It's only a mile from my house and is never crowded at the times I go to work out.
Front desk personnel and managers can be jerks at times. I did not like being pushed into buying a personal trainer (which I din't buy). Now that I think about it and read other people's evaluations, I noticed I was not alone. I am happy I did not fall for it, although they go borderline illegal to make you sign for clases. I use the pool, never ask staff for anything. Locker rooms are clean and nice although at some point I had to point out to staff that there was smell in it. they did something about it because now it is (and smells) clean. Staff never teach or show how to use machines (as they do in Planet Fitness for instance) unless you buy a bunch of private lessons. On a scale 0 to 10, they are between 5 and 6, which means, I like the machines, pool, etc., I don't like the people or their practices.
Paul Trimble, yes people should be able to say no, but as someone who did say no to personal training and extras, I was still harassed by staff to sign up. When I first signed up, I had lost 50 pounds, and my husband and I were in the process of buying a house. So I told them I wasn't interested, I was saving money for a house to start a family, the guy said to me, "Oh, so all that is more important than your health?" Maybe or maybe not, but I had been doing fine on my own and just wanted to continue on my journey. Even while I was continuing to sign up, he was still harassing me to get personal training....NO means NO! Yes, its their job to sell, no it is not their job to harass me! That is the difference with the people here. While I was working out they would come up to me mid-workout and out of breath trying to get me to sign up. I began to dread going there because as a Special Ed teacher, that is my time after work to get out all my frustrations. It was always the same people too. I began to tell them, "My answer was no yesterday and it will be no today. I am buying a house with my husband." Those answers aren't good enough and they continue to harass. Needless to say, I am a member at Planet Fitness again, and I enjoy working out harassment free. There are Pros: the fitness classes are great and I miss them. There is also a lot of space to do what you need to do and the locker rooms are always clean Cons: air quality (it is so stuffy in there) and staff
After reading these reviews I think the biggest problem is that these people have too high of expectations when it comes to gyms. After Fast Gym closed down I switched to LA Fitness out of sheer convenience. I think--actually, I know-- I was spoiled by my last gym. LA has it's benefits, but there are ways it could be better, for sure. First, the staff: Like many have written here, they are unmotivated at best. This is not to say all of the staff is that way, but they do sometimes come off as "clique-y". I have never, and probably will never, ask one of them for a spot, simply because I think that would inconvenience them too much. To the people complaining about the salespeople 'pressuring' them into personal training I say: grow up. They are doing their jobs and if you are an adult, you should have the ability to simply say 'no'. Also, every gym you join will have a contract. You need to be responsible and read it. It is not their fault you did not do so. A good trick is to walk in there knowing how much you're willing to pay. The salespeople are always ecstatic to have an easy sale so just say what you're willing to pay. Next is the building itself. I have never had a problem with any of the equipment, nor the cleanliness . It seems that they have a working system. Most of the members remember to wipe their equipment. The nastiest thing about this place is the amount of loogeys people spit into the drinking faucets; it is seriously a problem that I've contemplated bringing my own sign in and putting up over the faucets. But other than that, as I said, it is very clean and the equipment gets fixed usually in a timely manner. I've never swam in the pool, nor the hot tub, but the sauna and the locker rooms are usually very clean, which is nice. THE BIGGEST NEGATIVE FOR THIS GYM IS THE AMOUNT OF MEMBERS. If you like to workout between the hours of 4-7 the gym is going to be PACKED; and I mean seriously packed. It is not uncommon to have to wait for people to get off of the equipment you want to use. In synopsis, I would say don't join. It means more room for me. =D
