I lived in Kingwood for 4 months in 2012 and absolutely loved working out at Monster Gym. At first I felt a bit intimidated to go in but am incredibly glad that I did-there are plenty of average joes working out here not just Worlds Strongest Man competitors. The staff is great-Tiny, Kim, Bob, etc. It is an excellent crowd to work out in and everyone is serious about what they are doing not just walking on treadmills and doing Pilates like other places. Music is unedited and motivating since there are no kids in the gym. There are bodybuilders and fitness models working out here on a daily basis so you are very motivated to work out. There are exercises you can do here that are frowned upon at most other places-chalk is provided, loud deadlifts are encouraged, you can flip tires around in the back if you want, lift Atlas stones, throw a beer keg. etc. try getting away with that at 24 Hour Fitness! There are large fans throughout the gym and you can point one directly at yourself while working out so that you don't overheat like in most gyms. The only complaint I have is that the dumbbells above 100 lbs were lacking-it jumps from 110 lbs to 150 lbs with nothing in between. Tiny's bench presses are awesome, the padding is perfect on them to keep you in place and there are safe platforms to be spotted from. This is the difference between someone who bench presses 1000+ lbs designing the equipment and the garbage benches found in commercial fitness centers Tiny knows what works and what doesn't. Unlike the rubber coated weights you find elsewhere these are metal and you will find out quickly that you are much weaker on them then the rubber coated garbage so don't try using your normal poundage the first day. I loved going in here on Saturday mornings to work out my legs because the entire gym would be empty I think I saw one other person in all my visits on Saturdays. Since I now live over 60 miles away I no longer go to Monster Gym can only hope they open a location somewhere in the West Houston area sometime
