24 Hour Fitness
Reviews
Its a shame people only write reviews it seems when they only have negative things to say. Well I LOVE LOVE LOVE this gym in Bella Terra. I moved to the Katy area almost a year ago and my nieces go here. Went in for a tour (granted the lady that gave me that wasn't so helpful) but when I mentioned that my nieces hooked me up with the person that helped them. If you tell them up front you just want the membership, don't try and upsell me etc., hopefully you wont get that (I didn't). Sometimes they HAVE to and you just will have to listen. Its their job. Yes it can be crowded at times, but honestly I have never had a problem except on Mondays peak after work hours and well, I take Monday as a rest day or I go for a run from home. Everyone seems nice enough (I don't need coddling). I just want to go in, work out and be done. And this place lets me do all that and more. For the price you cannot beat it.
I come here sometimes only because I live just around the corner otherwise it is a terrible location. There is so much unused space in this location it is ridiculous, they could have fit much more equipment in here. This location is ridiculously overcrowded at all hours of the day including daytime hours on weekdays, apparently nobody in the area is employed. The majority of the people in the gym are sitting around text messaging and taking Instagram photos of themselves in the mirror not working out and have no purpose for even being there. The few free pieces of equipment usually have someone’s cell phone resting on them so that they can get back to text messaging furiously as soon as they get a drink of water and rest their fingers between sets of text messaging. The TRX area takes up a huge portion of the gym for a piece of equipment that is essentially a swingset with some straps hanging off of it. There is stupidly more spacing between machines which have a fixed range of motion then there is between the free weight benches which is bound to cause accidents from rolling dumbbells. There is simply no reason to have large spacing between machines. The squat rack and power rack are occupied pretty much 24 hours a day all year long so don't count on using either of those (there is only one of each). There is a single Smith machine here so don’t count on that being free either. The focus of this gym is clearly cardio. Probably 90% of the gym is cardio equipment and weights seem to be an afterthought, it looks like a treadmill warehouse when you walk in If you are looking for cardio equipment then this is probably heaven for you, but I do cardio outdoors and have no purpose for indoor treadmills. Free weight wise the dumbbells are horrible-the grips are way too big around I can't even get my hand fully around them. The dumbbell grips are also tapered making them very awkward and unsafe to use. The heaviest dumbbell is 120 lbs, compared to the old days when 24 Hour Fitness provided dumbbells up to 150 lbs. The flat benches (not the bench press-the loose ones for curls, dumbbell bench, etc) are shaped similar to a human body with curves and just terrible to actually work out on. It is as if someone who has never worked out in their life designed most of the equipment here because in concept it seems good but in practice it is terrible. There is one leg press but other than that there really is nothing here to workout your legs. The "hack squat" they have in this gym should be labeled shoulder shrug because that’s exactly what it is-a hack squat has the shoulders supporting the weight the thing in this gym has your hands supporting the weight in a shoulder shrug type posture. The selection of calf machines is laughable there is one standing calf machine and one angled type machine you sit on. Most of the machines are horribly designed so that parts of your body not being worked out are moved for unknown purposes. For instance, on the seated curl machine when you curl the weight it moves the leg and back portion so that your whole body is rocking around for no reason at all. Hammer Strength equipment is lacking and things like a Hammer Strength flat bench press which are in every other Houston area 24 Hour Fitness are not in this location. As with other 24 Hour Fitness locations staff turnover is constant and most of them only last a couple months at most. If you don't live nearby or need to come to this location due to time constraints Mason Road is a better location that is less crowded and you save $20 a month (not much better though). If you are seeking a place to sit around text messaging outside of your house or a treadmill this is the place for you, those looking for an actual workout should go elsewhere. It is unfortunate that 24 Hour Fitness keeps opening horrible facilities that are nothing more than large hotel gyms. I truly miss the days of World Gym before 24 Hour bought them in the Houston area.
Not sure why they have 3-6 people in front when you arrive to greet you, there is no greeting about 90% of the time you enter. The employees are to busy talking among themselves to acknowledge customers. It is always a challenge to get a clean small towel in the afternoons. Its always they will be ready in 10 minutes. Heres an idea, in 10 minutes walk through the club and see if any of your members need a towell. I am also confused why employees work out during peek times. The facilities are nice, the staff needs more "CUSTOMER SERVICE" training.
love the gym. It provides what you need, wish the reviews reflected that. honestly the people complaining just need to find a different hobby or quit bitching.
Best 24 fitness I've been to. Clean, spacious, up to date.
