Idaho Athletic Club

We sent my daughter to swim class at this club. She was instructed by the instructor to lay on a poolside mat. The same day when she came home she had a rash in the area. Long story short. We went to the Doctor and she was diagnosed w/ a fungal infection and we had to get a prescription cream. This has cost us a lot money. Our complaints fell on deaf ears. Did not even offer a refund or a free class. They said they would ask the owner to disinfect the mats. What a joke those mats belong in the garbage dump. Very disappointed. Regret sending our daughter here and we definitely would not recommend this club to other caring parents. Disappointed in Meridian
I don't have a problem with this particular location, but I have a HUUUGE problem with Idaho Athletic Club as a business. Unlike most companies that treat their customers with respect, this company has not done so in my opinion. I moved away from the location I went to when I had this membership, so the membership wasn't useful for me. I don't want to commute in 20 minutes to the gym and 20 minutes back. So, I tried to cancel my membership. The club said I couldn't cancel over the phone and had to go into their store. This is a HUGE hassle for me because I work long hours and I would have appreciated it if they would not have this policy which is annoying. After complaining, they said I can cancel over the phone by calling the corporate office. The number on the website didn't work so I had to call and find the right number. I talked to the lady at the corporate office and she said I would be charged a cancellation fee of OVER $100 for me and OVER $100 for my wife. IN ADDITION to that, I would be charged $50 for January even though I'm cancelling before January. THEN she said I couldn't cancel over the phone and had to tell them in writing that I'm cancelling. WHY!!??!??!?! This policy ate up a lot of my time, hundreds of dollars during the Christmas season, and forced me to make many calls and write a letter. This is why I believe this company does not treat their customers right. A better option, in my opinion, is the YMCA. They have several locations in the Treasure Valley and they don't make you sign a two year contract. Also, I think their gyms are superior to the Idaho Athletic Club anyway.
Me being active military, I have to keep in excellent condition to do my job and i have been to other gyms but no other is as friendly and welcoming as IAC. They have all they equipment you could ever want there! Not to mention the facilities are kept very clean! Just got back from deployment from Afghanistan and IAC was charitable enough to donate a pass for the time while i am here on leave! Couldnt ask for more support than that! Couldnt see myself anywhere else!
I love this gym. Friendly staff, equipment is maintained. My favorite is by far my personal trainer Karlee, she somehow manages to work me harder than I thought I could, and keep it fun and all about my health and progress. With great staff like this, it is more than a gym, it is a part of my daily community.
My husband and I signed a contract with the Meridian Idaho Athletic Club based on the understanding that we'd be able to cancel it at any time with a $75 fee. When we went into the club to try and cancel our contract (because I got pregnant), we were told we could not cancel unless we moved out of town or had a doctor's note, on top of the $75 fee. The manager there, Shawn, was extremely unhelpful and refused to admit that it was even possible that he had not clearly explained to us the terms of the contract (even though neither my husband nor I would have ever signed a contract had we known we wouldn't be able to cancel with just the fee). Frustrated and amazed at his unwillingness to work with us or call his boss or do anything for us but to act like, "oh well, not my problem", we went to go try to get a doctor's note from my OB-GYN. We come back with the note, and he says that it won't work because the note doesn't say that I won't be able to go to the gym for 90 days. WTH? It says I'm pregnant, and I will be pregnant for another 8 months! Of course I won't be able to come in for the next 90 days!! There was yelling involved at this point, on both sides... with him arguing that he can do nothing for us because he's "just an employee", and threatening to kick us out of the gym. And there I am, trying not to continue yelling at him, "Are you kidding me?!" In the end, he calls Corporate, reads them the note, and they approve it. Wow, thanks Shawn. I've never had such horrible customer service. I can't believe these people are in business and continue to get away with this sort of thing, where not only is the customer "wrong", but where unethical business practices are written into their contracts. Please don't give these people your money. I've been a member of many different health/athletic clubs in California and I've never heard of a club requiring a doctor's note in order to cancel contracts.
