A story about the Downtown Rush Gym, now Gold's Gym, stupid management and really poor customer service. Recently Gold's Gym purchased the Rush chain. I had been a member of the downtown Winston Salem Rush for almost 4 years when this past Saturday I was informed that my credit card needed to be updated. It seems that even though I received a new credit card security code back in January, Citi kept processing the monthly Rush dues of $24 but when the billing switched to Gold's they stopped. Instead of sending me an email letting me know that I needed to update my credit card info for them they waited until I was 30 days past due and now wanted to charge me a $25 penalty charge, which I refused to pay. I then called Gold's customer care and they agreed to apply the additional $25 to the following month's dues if I went ahead and paid it. I returned to the Rush downtown ready to pay the $49 ($24-$25 penalty) At the time the general manager Eric attempts to place me on a bi-weekly billing of more than $12.50 which equals $27 monthly which I refuse. He states that he will talk to management and get back to me. I give him my mobile but he still calls my home instead (just dumb!) I return to the club to get this explanation: "We made a mistake. It is not $12.50 but only $11.99. I do the math and that equals $25.97 not $24 monthly, which would be $11.08 bi-weekly. He (stupidly I might add) explains that they have to round up. Really? How do you go from $11.08 to $11.99 and call that a rounding issue? I then called customer care (though they really don't care!) about this abd they explain that it is a local management decision which I assume means means Eric. If so then he lied, although I cannot figure out why. I then asked to speak to someone in Gold's management and that request was simply refused. I would highly recommend against using the Rush or Gold's Gym since they obviously do not care what local management does and are willing for forgo $288 annually to chase $24 additional in fees. If this had been a simple rate increase I would not have had an issue but it wasn't. Management lies and Gold's seems OK with that. I am now joining another Gym that will require that I get in my car instead of walking to it but it is the principle!

I love Rush Fitness complex and always have. My favorite part is the staff at the Jones Town Location. They are always so motivating. Especially one trainer who has really made a difference in my life and so many others as well. His name is Marcus Jamison. He goes above and beyond his work duties to help, educate, and motivate his clients and even members that are not his clients; myself being one of them. He takes time when he is off the clock to help others including myself with correct form and just simply helping you push through a work out. His knowledge stretches far beyond fitness. He has also helped me learn so much about nutrition too! His heart is in this! He has to be the most genuine trainer the rush has. I vote him trainer of the year. If it wasn't for Marcus I may have given up on several occasions. His Pep talks have enabled me to persevere through times when I was ready to throw in the towel. He always has a smile on his face, he is an optimist and his positivity is consistent and this is what sets him apart from others. He deserves recognition. I truly believe other trainers learn from him. He loves what he does and he has an innate gift to serve others in the fitness world. I have been a member at the rush for over 3 years and in my eyes he is the glue that holds the fitness area together. I know all the trainers and think they are wonderful but Marcus has a gift and this should not go unnoticed. Thank you for your time. I hope this makes it to corporate office.

I frequent this gym often and usually have a great workout experience. The regular customers I see there are great people, and are always welcome to lend a helping hand with any questions I have about certain workouts. I started a new job last month and can only fit in gym time at night (which is a great plus of being a member of a 24 hour gym) and decided to go for it. I walk in the door, and look for someone at the desk but no one is there. I don't want to just walk in, so I wait a little while and about 15 minutes later this red haired Skrillex-looking girl rises slowly from behind the counter, as if she were walking up some stairs. "Are there stairs down there?" I ask, thinking maybe there was a downstairs part of the gym I never knew about. "Huh?" No? Uh..." she replied, then just walks away. I stand there confused and she motions for me to follow her towards the rock wall. When we get there, she says "Stupid rocks" and starts frantically smashing her head on the rock wall, causing herself to bleed all over the floor. I turn around to rush to the phone to call for help, and she grabs my arm and says "watch this." She literally jumps 10 feet in the air and latches onto the rock wall. I stood there very confused and decided to leave. When I got to the door and turned around to close it, there she was behind the desk acting as if she were climbing down a flight of stairs. I don't think I'm ever going at night again.

I have been a member of The Rush for a some time now. I love their service, the employees are very friendly (most of them), and I feel welcome everyday I attend. The classes are great, the steamroom, and the personal trainers (at least the ones I had) are great as well. Yes, in the beginning there were guys hitting on me, as I'm sure these muscle building guys do with any new face. Eventually, they let up and I can go have a great workout any day and feel extremely comfortable. The prices are not expensive compared to my old gym and there is a lot more at The Rush than at my old gym.

The Rush fitness center is excellent. They have a ton of locations...and you can get into all of them for only $10 more a month, which for me was only $24/mo, I thought this was a great deal. When you go into the Rush they're always friendly and same when you leave. I didn't feel pressured into buying a membership, or into buying anything extra. Their equipment is excellent, top of the line. They set their gyms up so that you can have a little privacy when running or using the cardio equipment, which is really nice. I think the Rush is great, and works for me!
