Downtown Athletic Club

Love my club! Love the instructors and trainers. Like any business there is always something to improve and work on. The DAC is constantly improving and trying new things. My family loves Wednesday's half price wood oven pizza, restaurant staff is friendly.
So far, I have loved this Gym. They provide parking, and have tons of class options. For the price comparison of other gyms- like cross fit, barre 3, and yoga memberships, I think it is super worth the price. This gym offers barre classes now- which is what got me into the gym… My only complaint is they could be open later than 9. Sometimes I work pretty late and it would be nice to go in around 10. They could update some of their stair stepping equipment too. I think as of 2014 they have really attempted to revamp with better promos and affordability.
The club is wonderful as far as facilities and the staff working there are concerned. But their billing person Susan is absolutely terrible. I had been told that by moving to Seattle I wouldn't have to remain a member for the entire year. I was told that I just needed to send in my new address when I got up there (proof I'd moved) which I did. I then got sent to collections, and went through the same process with the collection agency. I had never been in collections in my life. I contacted the agency and he assured me that he would resolve the issue with the client. That was the last I heard of it before moving back to Eugene and wanting to go back to the club. I contacted them and was told initially that because of what happened last time - the initiation fee would need to be paid in full up front (they offer monthly payments on it as well, but wanted it paid in full). I said that would be fine and arranged a time to come in and sign up. I then was told that Susan - the A/R manager decided that the entire balance of my contract from last time was due in full, and that couldn't be a member before paying that - and a new initiation fee. I spoke with Susan on the phone and she was rude and insisted I now pay for something I'd been told all along was resolved. She said it had not been and that they would pursue it in collections. I sent a letter to the management at the DAC expressing my displeasure and informing them I would not be rejoining. I wanted confirmation that the old amount was dropped. I then was served paperwork for a lawsuit from the collection agency. I immediately contacted the general manager Kevin to work this out - and he and I had a good relationship. He was professional - but apparently while we were working on a settlement Susan had the agency obtain the judgement and send a wage garnishment. I've now contacted the courts and my own attorney to reverse this. I will be pursuing them and the agency for acting in bad faith. Although I can recommend the club and Kevin the General Manager - if you have reason to deal with accounting - I would definitely get an attorney and document everything.
I've been a member for 20 years, the club is always very clean, the people who work there are professional, there is always lots of choices in equipment and classes... the members are people who are focused on their health and serious about their workouts. Parking is convenient, out of the weather and included in your membership. I love it.
For over 8 years I have had the sincere pleasure of being part of an organization that actually cares about their members. The DAC not only strives to provide a positive experience in all points of contact at their beautiful downtown athletic facility, they consistently deliver exceptional member service in arenas of classes offered, locker room options, conference and banquet centers as well as varied restaurant choices. Every time I have used the DAC facilities the staff have been friendly and helpful. The trainers are excellent as are the dance teachers and spin instructors. If you haven't been up to their gorgeous deck overlooking the city and the restored neon sign across the street you are seriously missing some of the best in Eugene. They have a marvelous and every changing food menu, that uses local ingredients handcrafted by an on-site chef and a terrific martini and bar menu. Piles of clean towels, shampoo, lotion, hair dryers and curling irons all grace the locker rooms. If you forget something, they usually have it. In addition to this, they have supported downtown and been stewards of renovation and innovation in a region that has often struggled. I consider them a jewel in our town and look forward to many more years of enjoyment and success for them.
