Their service is a needed one in the area, however they are VERY HAPHAZARD in their communication. They are expensive, they do not follow the curriculum for the children that they advertise on their informational handouts, some of the staff are VERY SHORT with the children(raising voices in an improper manner and extremely antagonistic from what I have personally witnessed), and their busing of the children from place to place is a complete disaster! I would also argue with the previous commentator that it is not true that "They run child care at each elementary school site." This was changed in some schools while not passing the information on to the parents even though they were asked directly what the status was of the program and they knew the program was not going to be offered in some locations. Willamalane had plenty of prior notice that they were not going to be in particular schools. (typical of an institution that cares about a bottom line, rather than a child that they are supposedly there to serve). I would also mention that the previous comment appears to be from their standpoint (i.e. an employee, board member, or paid staff member as they do not allude to their relationship with Willamalane.) Also, there are plenty of private care providers in the area who are licensed through the state. They have lower adult to child ratios, they provide more valuable educational and playtime activities, they provide more nutritional snacks and meals, AND they are even cheaper than Willamalanes program. JUST SEARCH YAHOO, They list plenty of them. The only reason I did not rate them lower is that there is staff there that is decent, the service is needed in this region, and there was no abuse. This is till UNACCEPTABLE. Otherwise I would rate them even lower! If you decide to use their services, I would suggest keeping a very close eye throughout the year as to how your child is taken care of in all of these respects and communicating your concerns to them and in other ways such as this review process. I would also like to say that Willamalane as a local organization is a positive and enriching program for the community. The comments made here by me APPLY ONLY TO THE KIDS CLUB PROGRAM.
